Cars.com: What Are the Most Fuel-Efficient Cars for 2022?

If I was going to buy new I'd be looking at a Mirage, Versa or Maverick. But from what I hear, getting the base model hybrid Maverick is near impossible.

I do like our '19 Sentra. Definitely cutting a check for that one near the end of the lease. I'll probably end up putting a lot of miles on that this summer. The Grand Marquis is one of my dream cars but, phew, 19MPG

I'd do that but I live on the highway at 75-80mph, usually an hour at a time. The two sub-compacts would probably drive me nuts in short order.

*Clearly mpg isn't the most important thing in the world to me.

I echo your statements.

It really is really starting again! I am waiting for the Tornado to be back on the market.

Mine, when I'm not driving it.

Test drove a base Versa with MT before I bought the Ecosport. Worse build and quality and drive of any new car I've driven in 30 years. Looked at the engine and the hood wouldn't close. Tried another - same thing.
I would go with a KIA forte or VW Jetta MT6 for economy but the market is insane.

My poor running FORD Ecosport only gets 22mpg AVERAGE, but if gas goes to $4.399 that will only cost me 267 dollars more over the whole year compared to $3.45 gas - so not even worth thinking about**

now to get that $249/mo Comcast cable bill down - that will pay for gas for years!

_______________
** 6200 mi/yr = 282 gal gas used annually @ 22mpg

The new versa they came out with is way better than the older ones as far as build quality. The 2012-2020 ones were kinda rough. But for a daily driver, I just need A-B transportation with good fuel economy.

I did drive the new one. It's not good. No use buying Junk regardless of your planned usage. I did own a 2014
Versa note. Seemed sort of OK - like a properly priced Honda FIT, but the O.E chinese NISSAN oil filter killed the engine it first cold day, 2 weeks on. Plus the high windscreen cowl and tiny view area was not too endearing. Felt like you were in a bunker. The Sentra of the day was much better - Better driver than a BMW 318.

Luckily the Nissan dealer was sympathetic and took the car back and I threw some more bucks at it and got a
Rogue Select - which was a very good car - except for the front brakes constantly wearing out at an alarming rate

The cardboard end caps were tight against the can, barely .001"- 002" for the oil to get around from the inlet holes.
Incompetence on display and just bizarre. Nissan-Renault changed to Mexican assembly shortly there after. The next OE, Grupo Gonher, had its own spate of issues with prolapsed or pinched ADBV. Did I expect to have problems with OE filter? NO! I was thinking discussing such is what this forum is for.

If you don't want to deal in facts, but instead just make FUN of facts - go somewhere else to do it..

I can understand the getting blown around thing. I've been driving my Grand Marquis almost exclusively for the past 5 months. Took the Sentra on a trip over the weekend -- I don't really mind the way the Sentra drives except for getting blown around in the wind. Good car, good MPG. I believe it has a different transmission than the versa/note , however.

Sorry to hear about your Note. I really like those too. Was tempted to buy one with crank windows when they were sold still! I guess having the dog, I can't really do no windows.

Have you done any CVT fluid changes on the rogue select transmission yet?

Miller88 - I traded that Nissan car for VW Jetta in early 2019 and returned the Jetta lease a bit early in late 2020.

I tried to buy an service contract for the Roge Select, but no one would sell me one for a CVT transmission.

On the Fluid, I changed it with about 22K miles on it - and even that was a bit late seeing all the mud on the dipstick.
( last year of CVT with a dip stick and engine bay fill tube. The Trans worked excellent and never had any issue and I drove it very hard, and manually shifted the thing often using the O.D on and off switch and also the Low to D quadrant positions. That gave me 3 simulated gears which was partially satisfying when I was in a situation requiring high performance. I did trade it a few miles after it was out of warranty.
It still was eating front brakes and rotors for some reason. and I had worries about the trans - even though it worked well. Valvoline fluid worked great no need whatsoever for the Nissan fluid. It is all about the friction modifiers to keep the shim-stack band "belt" drive having a good "bite" on the pulley sheaves - but not enough to chew them up.

The little beast was an absolute gas hog surprisingly, never returning over 23 mpg and often averaging around 21.5 - which is abysmal. Wonderfully comfortable car for two though, with stunningly comfortable seats and a very solid body structure, much tighter and stiffer than the larger Rogue that came later. - Ken
