Purchased a new air cleaner for my truck; its a 98 GMC that requires a A1300c. I bought the Carquest equ. that is #88440 in Canada or #46440 in USA. I`m thinking that its a good quality of filter and probably just as good as the ac-delco seeing as its made by Wix/Dana.
When i open it up i see "made in Mexico". Hmmm.
I always thought that when you bought a Wix product you bought something made in Canada/USA???
The quality of this filter looks good and im sure this topic has been covered here before and i dont want to get too political.......
Can`t we make air filters in the USA/Canada????
I feel better knowing im buying a quality product thats made here.
Opinions anyone??

My 2003 Toyota Tacoma has a wix air filter in it.
The box said made in the USA but the filter had a gold sticker on it that said made in Korea. Like your it also looks to be a good quality filter.

For my '02 Cavalier, I bought an ACDelco from the dealer ($15.00 US) that was made in Mexico.

The other filters didn't fit the opening in the box correctly, leaving a gap where unfiltered air could get in. I didn't try a Wix, though. You'd think if they make the filters in Mexico at least they could pass some of the savings on to the consumer. I will look for the made in USA (or Canada) label on the next filter I buy, if available. I may even try an Amsoil on this car. This way I won't have to send any of my money to Mexico for a filter again.

Amsoil air filters are made in Superior Wisconsin, those are the only filters I have used for the last 25 yrs.

I tried one. It didn't fit well into the airbox and moved out of position. It was a real mess to clean. I noticed no difference between an Amsoil oiled foam filter and the dry OEM filter. Some folks (must have hot engine compartments) have had the Amsoil foam filter come apart. Isn't the company that makes the filter owned by Al Amatuzio, who also owns Amsoil?

So was the carquest filter a red line or blue line level filter? The red line is the "value" level of filters - the equivalent of a Napa Silver. The blue line or premium filter is the Wix/Napa Gold equivalent.

Good stores to shop at ask you which one you want. Bad ones either sell you the expensive one without telling you there is a cheaper one or assume you only buy on price and only offer the cheapie.

Ask the folks in Cambridge at...
519-650-7300

Or stop by for a visit...
244 Montrose St.
Cambridge, Ontario

Most likley there is not enough "demand" for the vehicle application. Otherwise we'd be making it inhouse and not purchasing from outside.
