CARQUEST Red and Blue filters by Champion Labs

I just picked up a Carquest R85372 which goes on a 2007 Explorer. Cost was $2.18. Not a bad filter to use for 6k oil changes I would think. The Carquest is right here in my town. The price for the Blue filter is $ 6.89 the last time I purchased one.

Glad I found this thread, I was going to ask who made CQ filters. Now I know.

I just picked up some supposedly private label wix filters for the honda's i have. 57356-P is on the plastic wrap, didn't come in a box. They are carquest labeled.

These do not have the silicone adbv, its black so nitrile right? coil spring on dome end. They also have 6 holes instead of 8.

Are these wix and how good are they???

If it's a Wix it will say Affinia on the label somewhere, with a triangle-looking logo. What color is the writing on the filter? If it's blue, then it is the same as Wix. If it is red, then it is still made by Wix, but a slightly cheaper version (like Napa Silver, Microgard, and Pro-Tec). If the part number starts with an R (in your case, R84356), then you have the cheaper Wix. The "real" premium Wix part number will not have the R in front (just 84356)

The date code for a Wix will be on the top of the can, and will be in white letters, so it may be hard to see.

If the date code is on the side of the can and written in red, and the date code format is Axxxxx (the letter A followed by a 5-digit number), then they are made by Fram.

Some pictures would help

These didn't come with packaging and i don't see affinia anywhere on the can, just a clear plastic wrap with "wix 57356:P". They do have red lettering and the R84356 label on the can, so i guess i got the cheaper version.

Should i have any reservations using this filter on my wifes 2014 pilot?

Its only got 10K so its clean, Im not super concerned about a lower efficiency as Ive heard the oem filters efficiency wasn't that great either. I go by the maintenance minder for oil changes which i think is about 6500 miles.

called rockauto to try to return, they wouldnt take them back unless i paid for shipping..[censored].

the girl told me that wix purchased a different brand on close out and has a right to call them wix??? didn't sound right to me, if i order wix, even a close out, it should be something that wix manufactured. I don't care if its a wix with a champion sticker, but not a champion with a wix sticker.

Rock is being misleading there.

I bet they have had that conversation before.

But if you're buying a private label oil filter on-line for $2, you are definitely rolling the dice.

The Champ built filters are probably fine to use.

But they won't have the Wix build quality you were expecting.

Is this a gut feeling or do you actually have experience with Champ made carquest reds?

Those Champ made Carquest red filters are heavy filters. As a matter of fact, my car uses ACDelco PF52(E), and the Carquest red cross was heavier than any other filter that I have put on the scales for that car except for a Fram Ultra. Yes the Carquest Champ red is heavier than a ACDelco Classic(no ecore), and it was heavier than standard black can Wix too.

I can confirm that they are heavier too. I tried one in my Jeep which it didnt seem to like. Oh well. I have to cut it open yet for you guys.

I received 3 Carquest filters from RA's "WIX" clearance. Oh well.. I didnt get a bad deal for the 3 by any means, but it wasn't a killer deal either. I had been wanting to try some of these in the garden tractors anyways and the local AAP never has them in stock.

They are smaller than the 51334 (Fram xx9688) though, but still bigger than the xx6607 (OEM size). Cant remember the WIX number for these.

AAP is keeping the Car Quest branded line of parts.
