Yep. I heard from a nice fella at Carquest that Baldwin was making their oil filters now too. It happened earlier this year. I thought it was Champion Lab.

So Baldwin is making the blues, and Fram/Champ is making the reds. According to the video, Champ was going to make the blues too. I wonder what happened to that deal.

Picked mine up today. Champ made and boy is it stout.

Why carry a gun when you could just chuck this at somebody?

Haha yup.

I stay away from my local AAP. It seems every time I go there I end up spending too much time in a small line because some dunce is working the counter. Prices seem too high for me for such a large chain.I can get oil cheaper at the drug store.

I walked into a Carquest in Minnesota to pick up some red filters for the Infiniti. They were black instead of red, with the part number beginning with R#####. It is Made by Champ with the baseplate resembling that of a Champ rather than a classic FRAM (even though they are the same company now).

Price was right too. $1.97 each.

By the way, what does Dilawri charge for an OEM Nissan filter? I am sort of afraid of what the answer might be.

Yes, the Carquest Standard Red filters are made by Champ, and the Carquest Premium Blue filters are made by Clarcor/Baldwin. I got this information at AAP. According to a Carquest filter pamphlet, the Red filters have an efficiency of 94.1% @ 20 microns and the Premium Blue filters are 99.5% @ 20 microns. The Red filter has a nitrile ADBV and the Blue filter has a silicone ADBV. The Blue filters are very nice.

Also, the Carquest Standard Red oil filters have been available at the AAP stores near me for a while now. They were just not on the shelves out front with the other oil filters ... they were behind the counter with the commercial parts and were mainly sold to the commercial customers (garages, etc.), but regular (DIY) customers could also buy them by just asking for them when the AAP salesperson looked up the oil filter brands/part numbers for the customer's car. The customers would have needed to be aware though that AAP had the Red filters to know to ask for them (unless the salesperson let them know all the filter brands available for their car). I still haven't seen the Carquest oil filters on the shelves out front in the AAP stores near me yet, but after reading this thread, I guess they will be at some point in the future. Also, if a customer wants a Carquest Blue oil filter, then he or she can go into an AAP store and a salesperson there can order them with no problem. It would be nice though for them to be on the shelves with the other oil filters so they can be bought without having to order them.

Yes; this is true. I picked up some for my PSD on clearance and they are the CQ Blues Made By ClarCor with a date code of 01/28/2015.

I weighed the filter, and it weighs 10.6 oz which is really hefty compared to other filters. ACDelco Classic PF52 weighed in at 9.7 oz. and a Wix 51036 weighed in at 9.8 oz., and a Fram PH3980(range can) at 9.2 oz. just for comparison. The date code on this filter was A50683.

Since the ACDelco PF52 is being phased out for the ecore, I guess the CQ red filter will be my go to filter from now on. At $3.69, it's right at $3.00 cheaper than a Wix, and I don't do oil drain intervals past 5k miles.

E-cores are the worst. Glad to have this option now with the cq filters. I'm going to call my AAP and see if they have them.

Nice pictures of that CarQuest premium blue. Looks to be manufactured very good.

Yes Advance has the red listed at 94.1% efficiency at 20 microns. Not sure if I could compare an ACDelco to the CarQuest red or not, so I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong. The ACDelco filters are 98% efficiency at 25 to 30 microns. Using ratios this would make the ACDelco 78.4% efficiency at 20 microns, and the CarQuest red 117.6% at 25 microns.

Math be dang. I think the CarQuest red standard filter is built like a tank, and has the heft behind it to prove it.

I was at my local store again today and asked if they had any older stock WIX made red filters

Surprisingly the guy knew what I was talking about and said they originally had a few WIX made Red's left over, but the shops were the first ones to get them.

Worth asking if you guys prefer the WIX.
