How come AAP not display Carquest oil filter next to other oil filter. I had to go up to the counter and ask for it for them to bring it out?

Alot of time I just want go in, grap an oil filter and go check out. Without being ask “ what year make and model and here is the option for the vehicles “

Or just order online for store pick up ?

Should have asked them why. The AAP store by me said it's so they can have more self space for other filter brands. They probably get paid for self space. At least it keeps people from messing around with them. I just asked the guy if I could inspect the one I wanted to buy before paying for it.

Same around my area store brand filters kept behind the counter. Easier for them to pull for house accounts and floor space is most likely paid for & commissioned by aftermarket sales. Fram must be in deep with advanced they make exclusive filters just for them.

Like at any fine establishment all the good stuff is out back!!

Would be nice to inspect without having to ask.

Local AAP manager is good friend of mine and said it was for competing shelf space with popular brands. They are kept with all the other parts in back and all of their wholesale accounts get CQ unless they ask for something in particular. Only the customers in the know (like fellow BITOGers) will ask for them by name, and those that go to the counter and say to throw in an oil filter with their purchase of tie rod ends and fan belts get the CQ good stuff ;).

More than one auto parts shop I've been to has the counter WAY forward in order to have more space "in back".
Makes sense in the first place.
You know the workers there can make better use of the space and avoid clutter and mischief.
I believe the "wall of filters" in many shops is ugly. There are gaps, interruptions in numerical order, torn boxes etc.

I took a new H6 battery to the counter. The counterman asked me if I'd mind if he double checked the listing.
"People grab the wrong battery?", I asked.
"You'd be surprised", was his response.

It's just the way AAP chooses to sell CQ filters. As noted, it saves shelf space for the bigger brand names.

Since it's the only way to use the readily available 15% off online code (or others), in my experience that would be the preferable way to buy. Also how I purchased my last CQ Premium AF with a discount. One can still inspect the filters at the counter before leaving the store. Also, counter jocks won't need to ask for vehicle info. They likely ask to confirm you're getting the right part before picking it from the back.

I like to order online for in-store pickup because of coupon savings. You can always inspect it at the counter.

When I ordered some Carquest Premiums at AAP on-line (for the 15% off) for pick-up, I just asked he guy if I could inspect them before paying for them. He had no problem letting me do that. Brought my small super bright LED flashlight and looked down the center tube, and looked for external dents. They all passed inspection.

My local aap,East main st, was looking last week. They keep carquest behind counter.they have 24 . Mp4010 filters ,for my 98 lesabre. The mp,is the old stock made in USA! Without the mp it's the made in China ones. Think its the blue ones.
They took purolator pureones off the shelves, and kept mobil 1 filters, fram drive, fram titanium, fram force,ac delcos bottom shelf all Chinese writing with English e cores, kand n, few motorcrafts, purolator boss, some no name wrapped in plastic filter n box...think the manns were taken out too....might still be their have too look again
