Carquest #84502, 2014 Ford Taurus CUT OPEN

A simple UOA will not show if the oil has too much soot, a TBN & TAN will help, but in reality you need to look at the sump and oil pump intake screen to see if the OCI was too long.

The oil in a petrol engine is gold to start with, then turns more of a dark brown. If it turns black the detergents have run out or the block was already sludged up to start with.

If the oil filter has blocked, the insolubles will go out of limits, but just to confuse things that UOA figure also increases if the active detergents have been used up.

Using too much Moly (Mo) laden oil additives will also darken the oil.

A lot of assumptions being made by you lately. Care to back these "assumptions" up with data and facts like DNewton and 2016_PSD have done?

Please put me on block if you can, as I don't have the time at present to look for approved data.

I have you on ignore; you just continue to spew inaccurate things and opinions.

Glad you don't work on cars for a living also as you wouldn't last a day

55 years of extending engine life in a professional capacity is more than a day, although I don't have a link to prove it!

Can you upgrade an ignore option to a block one ??

Why don't you try not posting on his thread, he politely asked you that earlier.

It's very difficult to say how bad the effect of a media split in any filter is. A real good vid clip does help, as many of the oil filter section posts don't give you any real idea if the split was one that was easy to open or not.

Oddly enough many of the companies I worked for that investigated serious engine failures did cut oil filters open, but very few of them had failed and those that did were nearly always non OEM standard filters with no type of approval. Not a good move for the owners, as those engines were all under some type of extended warranty!

Please give an example of a non OEM/Dealer filter in the United States with type approval that applies in the USA.

I was not working in the US, although about half of the engines were made in the US.

I can't think that any serious owner interesting in extending the life of an engine would use an oil filter than did not have any type of approval from a good oversight group like the API or TUV. Otherwise you would have no way of confirming the efficiency figures are correct and that it will not leak etc.

You might well find that the oil filter list used by Pittstop or Jiffy is OK in approval terms.

PS: The ZF Sachs web site does list quite a number of oil filters that have their (Based on TUV) approval for a 2 year warranty. www.sachs.de

Please refrain from posting here in this thread, as it is obviously creating more drama than is necessary.

Are you still a Mod ?? If not it seems you also think censorship by a member of who posts on a particular thread is a good idea.
I know free speech in the US costs money, but I'm not going to pay the 50 usd to post as a non moderated member and yes I do know that often gets non US members banned on occasions.

Back on topic, I like to see cut open oily cans and UOA particle count results, but deleting a post on 9/11 that was based on the latest documentary shown in the UK on PBS (A very good channel) was a bit OTT.
Just for the record before I get banned for asking why the FBI and FAA are still saying that the 6 flight recorders on the 2 AA's that hit the world trade center were not found (First airliners to crash on land and not have their flight recorders recovered) is beyond belief.

PS: Nothing wrong with a little drama in any thread!

So what do you have to say about the torn OEM Ford (Motorcraft) filters that have been posted here?

Pure bovine excrement, once again.

Motorcraft have a real big problem with poor quality copies, most of which are made in Mexico or China.

As far as I'm aware, there has never been an engine failure caused by the failure of a genuine Motorcraft oil filter and the boxes used for those filters have such good printing that it's near impossible to notice a difference, unless you cut open a new filter.

VW have exactly the same copied parts problems, although it's mostly oil and water pumps at present and they have been causing some block failures.
Some of their dealers even got caught doing box swaps to make more money (Water pumps)!

Sock puppet no 2 asked what Bovine something was, BUT I don't use their oils or filters, cos BE contains too much Bio content, so is not much good for a long OCI!

I used to think you were just full of yourself was all. Now I see that was a gross underestimation.

I highly doubt that Motorcraft filters bought in a dealership are saddled with a high probability of being counterfeit.

That may very well be true, but that's not the point. I expect a filter I purchase to maintain structural integrity. That's not exactly expecting too much from a product.

I'd watch the sockpuppet talk, by the way.
