Well the Bridgepoint products are professional and I am using them properly. Maybe its time for the $450 Bissell Professional machine. If I hire a pro and he gets it squeaky clean it will not stay that way too long with my dirty doggies. So I am looking for something better than the Hoover line of SteamVacs.

I found some reviews on Good Housekeeping on the machines. I think the % water removal is very important, not only from a drying point of view, but that water is dirty, the more you get up the cleaner your carpet will be. The dirt in dirty water is not going to evaporate.

Yes, and the repetitious nature of the issue is adding to the problem.

If you get the stuff suspended in a detergent solution and then cannot remove it all you will leave a little to dry on the rug. Many of the cleaning agents dry to a film of petroleum by products and coat the fiber.

Test a bit of your cleaner by drying it down in a dish in the oven after it is mixed as you use it. The residue is a clue to what is happening. Snotty, gooey residues are a problem, the good stuff will dry to a crispy white powder that vacuums away.

Talking about spot cleaning, I was very impressed with Scocth foam auto carpet cleaner. I found tea spilled all on the van carpet yesterday. I have no idea how long the spill was there. I was not expecting the foam cleaner to do much but I was shocked when it cleaned it up like it was new again.
