I don't think 'only accident free cars for sale' was ever implied or explicitly stated at any time in any part of this thread.

Did I miss something?!?

Nope, you are right. They advertise no frame or flood damage… Minor accidents or cosmetic accidents are OK but they will not resell of vehicle that's had suspension damage, frame damage or flood damage.

I purchased several cars from Carmax in the last 15+ years; it used to be that you could count on their price to be about $1500 over Bluebook; but you knew you were getting something that was in really good shape for its mileage and was a quality vehicle. Nother prices are even higher… I looked it up Mercury grand Marquis a few weeks ago, valued at $5000… They were asking 12!

I think that the quality has changed; there are a lot more vehicles now with more accidents, ill fitting body panels, and other issues which is leading me to stay away from them going forward....It seems like management is trying to maximize profit now that they are established, rather than having a quality place that you could go to for a good vehicle.

Having bought from them before, it really is convenient… Not that you were lazy but it is sometimes a better deal to pay a little bit more for a decent vehicle then to go with the lowest price vehicle and get a bunch of problems. And having said all that, their warranty (and the service behind it) is very good.

Nope, my wife and I once almost bought a car there and were going to trade in her car. Their trade-in offer was insultingly low. We test drove the car, and were all ready to start signing papers until they gave their trade-in offer. We left without buying anything pretty much immediately.

I've posted about it here before, but my only experience with them,I looked at a 1994 300ZX. Advertised on their site as mint showroom condition. Leather was cracked and torn, black plastic trim was falling off,and the a/c didn't work. I offered them $1500 off the asking price (which they were asking top blue book value) because I knew that's what it'd cost to replace the a/c compressor. The idiot sales douche immediately squared "We're a no haggle dealership". I mean seriously,no a/c in Texas is comedic.

Being a "no haggle" dealership-my question would have been-"are you aware the air conditioner isn't working? And do you plan on repairing it before I take delivery?" The interesting point here, is that you were willing to buy the vehicle even though you didn't agree with the condition-as stated on their ad.

Then why didn't you just have them fix all those items? I bought a used car before at a dealership and told them it was a deal if they did the brakes and struts. They put it on the sales order and the dealer service department did all the work.

There's other ways you can haggle. Buying a new construction home is like that too, they don't haggle on the price, but you can make demands like nicer appliances, better quality hardwood floors, bigger deck, extra parking space etc., which they will normally agree to, they just won't budge on the asking price.

On the other hand, they gave me 15k for my Durango... I found it for sale a few weeks later on a buy here pay here type of lot listed at 16k. They definitely lost money on that one.

I had Carmax appraise a 2012 Subaru Legacy before I went over to the Hyundai dealer to get rid of it. They were a little less than the Hyundai dealer-but not by much.

At the time-they had a two or three year old Toyota Highlander that I looked at-but was more than the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Limited that I bought new-with a 100,000 warranty.

Your questions are answered in this thread.
Ease of transaction, ease of warranty claims and decent dollars on trades.
I personally will go mano a mano on any new or used purchase and will save coin thereby.
Many, maybe most buyers don't intend to do this and feel like they're getting decent prices from Carmax.
There is something to be said for no-haggle pricing for most buyers and they're likely to get a better car from Carmax than some little used car lot, which also can't offer any real warranty.
I've gotten some great deals on new and used cars, but only because I was willing to hang tough and negotiate for them.
Many buyers don't understand how to do this or lack the backbone to do it.

Trust me,I tried that. I tried that before I tried to bargain on the price. They said if I want the car,it sells in as is condition.

Can I ask you for a small project when you will be on your next cruise vacation?
Can you put together a car shopping guide for BITOGers from your perspective/experience?
Also please find out what oil they use on the cruise ship's engines?

Thak you

Not entirely sure what you're asking, but PM me and I'll do what I can.
Oil used in engines would be easy. I'll just ask the engineering officer, who is a three striper and is usually a font of information. Guess few people really talk to these guys.
PM me with what you really want to know.
We'll be boarding a ship in San Juan 2/17/19 and will visit islands full of cars not found here.

I only sold couple cars to Carmax and finally bought one for first time little over year ago.

Only reason was they had bunch selections and easier to find colors also they hold vehicle for me without any hassle so it made everything easy.

Yes, i didnt pay way too much for mine compare to others was in other dealers but i know i paid little more for apr thru Carmax.

Will i buy again? Maybe.
