Here is the rap sheet on this dirtbag:

Joseph P. Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993, according to state records, and convicted of drug possession and other charges. He was arrested in 1997 in Manatee County on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges but was acquitted a year later. In the 1997 kidnapping case, a 20-year-old woman in Bradenton said a man grabbed her as she walked by and tried to pull her away, according to records released by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
"He got on top of me and told me to shut up or he would cut me," she told authorities.

Let's take this nationwide:

3 STRIKES AND OUT

This dirtbag predator should not have been free. Seeing the abduction on the video makes it feel like one of my kids was the victim. Perhaps from this tragedy some good will come. There are too many liberal judges that will give these dirtbags more and more chances to destroy lives. The law must be changed so that these repeat offenders are off the streets, and the judge has no discretion to practice foolhardy social engineering.

I dont agree with the three strikes you are out because of its problematic implementation. In California where it was first started, the ones that were prosecuted under this were people who had stolen a pizza and it made it their third felony. The law has not been used to go after the ones like this murderer, its been used to get the small fry.

Why? Its a whole lot easier to go after someone who by the very nature of their act does not shine a light on the prosecution. This same principle has applied in asset forfieture. Instead of using a lot of man hours and money to go after organized crime as it was supposed to, its a lot easier to setup and pull over anyone with out of state tags or cash. Much more newsworthy too.

If you were the state which would rather have:

Multiple felons convicted under three strikes.

One felon convicted under three strikes.

Despite my misgivings on the three strikes this animal should be fed feet first into the meat grinder.

Ya lot of good that does for the little girl. Like he said, tough on crime, I know some folks do get rehabilitated, but I don't think you can take violence out of these people.

There is no debate here. There is justice and punishment. Any other course of action will only strengthen such monsters.

Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree. But if you zap somebody there's no chance they get paroled by some bleeding-heart governor or escape and do it again.

Small fry, big fry, whoever, 3 felonies and GOOD RIDDANCE, no exceptions. It is expensive to lock up these losers, but we will be safer.

The main point is to take power away from liberal judges that let these predators roam free. I am open to other suggestions but seeing that little girl with her pink backpack get abducted, then reading that this dirtbag has many priors, makes my blood boil.

As for the 3 strikes, well I look at it this way, it may be only a Pizza, but the dumba$$ knew he was stealing, knew there were three strikes, and knew what was going to happen...why should we give a person like that yet another chance just becasue his crime was petty...crime is crime.

That video sent chills down my spine, I too have two kids and GOD help me if anyone hurt them. Kind of scary what the process lets loose on our streets. Those type should go to jail for life, no parole. The boys inside will take care of em.

My eyes teared up when I heared the news at work. No doubt about it this guy MUST BE KILLED!!!!!! I'd pay big money to be able see the whippen God will give him when he is judged. The justice system really let her down.

Here's my view of the problem Everyone wants to see a perfect justice system where the accused has almost unlimited rights. As a result it is harder and harder to convict someone. That's good (Liberals would argue) "Its better to free 1000 guilty men than to convict one innocent person" Seems innocent enough and perfect for the Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein types..and the price a body count of little Carlie Brucias..pretty small price for a noble agenda.

They should just do away with the death penalty, and give the family of the victim, an hour alone with the guy to do as they please. If they are a bunch of bleeding heart liberals, then they can give him a big hug. If they are good conservatives, then they can take to him with a pair of wire pliers and a blowtorch.

Bet that would lower the crime rate.

It is really not our place to decide what will happen to this animal. In due time God will take action. Although this little girl is no longer on this earth her spirit will always be close and this new little angel will grace the halls of paradise. Let us all hug our children and pray for the family of Carlie.

God bless FL and TX. California has the most inmates in death row followed by Texas and Florida. Texas kills the most followed by Florida.

I hope they release that dude into general population so his butt can rack up some miles before they nix him.

EDIT: If I ever become president, I would push for less jail time in favor of more killing.

There should be execution for people like this guy if he is found guilty. In this society today you have to watch the children 24/7; a child is not even allowed to be a child.

What kind of a monster grabs an 11 year old girl? I assume that he sexually assaulted her, and then killed her. The guy had a wife and children (I think he was separated from his wife).

In this disgusting society that we currently live it, you cannot allow your children to be alone for even a minute. You must escort them everywhere.

I think that anybody who rapes and murders a child should be executed. Probably most convicts would agree with that-heck, they would be willing to do the execution.
