CARB Catalytic Converter - AP/Eastern/Catco vs. BRE vs. Magnaflow

There is something specific to this particular engine that is giving them a hard time.

Other engines have more options for aftermarket cats with CARB approval, including from Walker.
It is due to the ultra restrictive Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) rating which is near the Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) level. Most vehicles of that generation are ULEV or LEV, but the 2003 Accords with the K24 engine in the EX/EX-L trim were SULEV rated. Here is a good video that shows the process for using the CA Executive Order exemption relative to the Honda cat. shortage in 2021.

With the CA Executive Order now rescinded, it is unclear whether the cats. installed prior to August 1, 2023 have to be retrofitted with a $2000+ Honda OEM cat. to pass smog testing.

As long as they were installed when the EO was in effect, they are still legal and don't have to be retrofitted--until the cat fails again, of course (keep the documentation in the glove box) :sneaky:

That same guy posted an update video saying the same (go to 4:46):

Aren't there more brands yet under Federal Mogul? This gets confusing!

I'm certainly not surprised about Moog, Monroe and Fel-Pro
yeah lots of brands under that corporate umbrella. If anyone knows what other brands Tenneco has, it would be good to know, it's what I could find so far.

and I agree with you, when I saw moog, monroe and fel-pro I thought "yup, that makes sense!"

Tracked down an “old stock” 82895.

Comparison with the one removed from the car:

New one appears to be a different design altogether. Flanges are slightly different as well.

The old converter was roasted; the insides were coming apart. It sounded like a sandbox when you shake it.
