So my gf was driving my car (03 Lexus IS300) friday and got rear ended by a Dodge Dakota. This guy ran a red light that had been red for a long time going about 45 mph she said. The guy admitted to the cops that it was his fault and manned up, but now I'm most likely looking for a new car. How she made it out without a scratch I don't know, but, the car was pushed into a traffic light box, sent the box flying about 15 feet, then pushed by the dodge all the way through to a power pole. The steel lines used to stablizize the pole to the ground cut all the way through the front to the engine block. The air bags never did deploy, but again I had to have the "Wear your D*** seatbelt" talk, after making sure she was ok, as this could have been alot worse. Had she been wearing her seatbelt her head would have not hit the steering wheel and her nose wouldn't be bruised. However, we called our insurance State Farm and they have been more than helpful as well as the guys insurance company. So all I have to say is hopefully it's totaled due to having 150k miles on it, and having gap will mean I don't owe the bank any more money on this car if it's totalled. Now with all that said, I am currently eyeballing 04-Present Infiniti G35 coupe's and wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences with these cars? Good/Bad, any known issues? It seems that one issue I've come across a few times after looking at them are tears in the seats near the seat release handle on the front seats. Any more input?

Either way I come out with the car repaired and a new paint job (needed new front bumper before this) or a new car with alot less mileage on it. I told her we're going to mcguires if the cars totaled because I promised her the day my car is paid off we're going out to celebrate. Of course I would have much rather paid it off than have the potential for someone getting hurt, but want to make her feel better
Hit by a force like that the car is pretty much going to be totaled, she's lucky not getting killed without seat belt too.
Most I've heard about G35 is to buy a 2003.5 or later so you're getting all the design problem fixed. They are powerful and use a lot of fuel (i.e. around 16-18mpg mixed driving). It would be a drop from IS300 for sure.

Well if it is totaled, I plan on getting the g35 and doing a few na mods on it to help with the gas a little if any
EDIT: Are there any good g35 forums out there? I used to go to my.is all the time for the IS300. Anything like that out there for the g35?

Don't you wonder why the airbag didn't go off? If it did, without her having a seatbelt on she could've been severly injured by it. I wonder if the newer ones (2000+) are disabled by the seatbelt not being secured? Thank God she is ok. Besides the airbag thing I would say the car proved to be a safe one. Good luck with the next one.

Surprising she made it out pretty untouched. Ive been in 2 horrific crashes, seatbelt saved my life. Getting hit in the face with an airbag is no joke, hope she learns from this experience.

I suspect that you haven't enforced the seat belt rule. Maybe it will teach her a lesson..
