Looking to purchase an electric vacuum cleaner for cleaning my truck and cars. Any ideas on a lightweight portable vacuum ?

I just had a chip in the windshield fixed by Safelite. He vacuumed the car out and whatever he used did an excellent job. I just sent him a text asking what kind it was. I only heard it on for a short time. He arrived in a new Focus hatch so I doubt it was a big shop vac.

Purchased a few, some expensive models, never liked one.

Last year Lowes had this one for $25 and I gave it a try. Have been using it at least monthly since. Excellent suction comes with everything you need for car

Metro is a good brand of auto vacuum. They have strong HP and are lightweight. While I use a shopvac, I have heard good things about Metro

The wife/I both use a smallish, very portable 2.5 gallon ShopVac brand called 'Hang-On'. It has high suction and can be hand held and/or is compact enough to set on the floor or seat while in use. The hoses/attachments are scaled down for use under/around auto interiors.

That is actually the same model I posted on the Lowes site (different color but same unit and includes the wall mount plate for storage)

I have an electrical outlet in my carport so I use our Hoover bagless upright we use for the house. Works great and has all the attachments. It has a small beater brush (pet hair) hose attachment and that works on carpet and floor mats and the small brush hose attachment works great for dust on the dashboard and door cards.

Here's another vote for the small small hand held Shop-Vac. I have one of the Lowe's blue models pictured above, & it works very well when I use it. Now if it would learn to vacuum by itself, it would be perfect!

I have a 10 year old Oreck handheld vacum that came with the upright that my wife purchased. It is great for the car and other small jobs around the house as it has a long hose and lots of attachments.

I am sure these could be found on ebay or craigslist cheap.

I have one of those as well, It's a good vac. I kinda wish the main hose was a tad bit longer but I just fit the unit between my legs and it works just fine.

If you know you're not going to be sucking up wet messes, my absolute favorite vacuum for cars is the Eureka AirExcel Compact. Talk about suction power and it's so light and small so it's easy to carry around. It has a couple attachments but the Power Paw turbo attachment, sold separately, really gets all the dirt worked into the carpet.

I've actually used the Dyson compact canister and can tell you this vacuum is even more powerful than that one and Dyson's are known for suction power. And this uses the same cyclone tech which doesn't lose suction.

Also 12v vacuums are always weak they just don't have any suction power.

Picked up one of these about a year ago.

Works like a charm, battery lasts for little over 2 cars, plenty of suction, light weight, I'm more than satisfied.
