I change all my cars at 5000 miles. The kid's Honda is usually at 30%. So it would be a non issue with me.

The results would be interesting.

When I was a kid we had a Ford tractor that could go 100 hours without becoming a quart low. When we would hook a pull type combine to it it would use a quart every 8 hours but go back to not burning oil when not running the combine off of the PTO.

2.0L engines running 85 MPH are getting a work out for sure.

I In no way think there's an issue it's completely normal. I just thought it showed the oil probably sheared some and would explain the usage at around 5,000 miles.

by the time it's down a full quart, I'd consider that the end of the oci. If the oil is going out by the piston rings, what is coming into the oil?

What makes oil consumption rise towards the end of the OCI? Oil thinning out and easier to sneak past rings / valve guide seals and/or evaporate off?

Makes me wonder if oil consumption spiking towards the end indicates that the oil really does need changing.

Have reported that my Nissan drops about 1 litre around the 7,000km mark (OCI 10,000km).

My last frankenbrew (M1 5W50, Penrite Race 5W30, and some Nulon 5W20 when I found out the HTHS of the race 30) back when I thought I was an oil formulator, the litre drop was dramatic, and hit at 5,000km into the OCI...that scared me, so I dumped it.

Edge 5W30 last OCI, and it was only 1/2L down at the 10,000km mark.
