Sam- This type of driving is extremely hard on an engine. Just as soon as the engine is burning off water vapor and contaminants from the combustion process, it shuts down.
What can be done? Aside from more frequent oil changes, a long highway run when there is time will help. As for oil? Running a "thinner" oil as suggested on this site...
Changing OCI to a shorter interval also.
In your case, I probably wouldn't use a synthetic. Maybe going to a 5w-20? I'd say treat it like you want to get blood flowing in the morning.
