I have purchased over 5-6 costco batteries for my cars and family, all of them lasted more than 3 years. Its possible that I might get one that will die sooner than 3 years, its OK, I will deal with it. Costco batteries are always fresh made and convenient to pickup when shopping at costco

And if they remove the warranty completely and increase price to $300 ... You still will get it from Costco?
Obviously not, I am able to get AGM battery at costco for $174 for my Car, its still a good deal even with prorated warranty
And they probably dont want to deal with stupid people who work for them messing with charging and testing batteries.
Plenty of people out there who are not safe to let loose with that equiptment.
One thing to consider, if after 2 years walmart gives you a free replacement, your warranty does not restart, you will only have warranty until the end of original term (1 or 2 more years depending on the warranty). But with Costco, you will pay pro-rated charge and clock will reset for the new replacement. Costco wont ask any questions, but Walmart will run a test ?

With the new prorated policy, they will give you the prorated value of your battery, and then you purchase a new battery with a slight discount from the prorated value of the old battery.
If the battery price has gone up 25 bucks so did your new purchase transaction price.
I have always used DieHard silver batteries in my 2002 Camry and have never had one go bad in less than 4 years. I guess living in New York helps a bit because of moderate weather
What you label as a scam is exactly what i think it is, a producer scam.
Basically the battery producers have engineered their batteries to die right at the end of warranty. I'm convinced of it.
Be careful what and who you label as a scammer.
In case of Costco, the majority of scam was due to consumer taking advantage of Costco generous return/warranty policy with no questions asked.
Due to this kind of behavior - Dont be surprised if one day WM changes their policy to match Costco.

I believe it is wrong to get a battery replaced just because the warranty period is ending unless it has failed...YMMV
