So I changed the oil on my girlfriend's 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5. Last change was a while ago (I am a bad BF) at my friend's shop. It had a filter on it that was like "puremax by purolator" or "puremax by pureone" some junk like that. I remember noting that it was not a purolator specifically, but some sub brand. Does anyone know what it is? I was asking them about that filter and they told me that they don't use them so then I was thinking, well, where the heck did it come from? They usually order stuff from worldpac, but they also have an account at advanced, and in a pinch I can imagine them ordering from advanced, maybe it is from there? I put a bosch distance plus on it this time. The car has been leaking and I saw a drop hanging from the filter, so I am hoping that is where the leak is coming from. I ran Mobile Super 5000 5w30 High Milage (to try and stop this oil leak).

I don't know if the leak is a common issue, but I have a 2006 Subaru Forester (same engine) and it has ALWAYS leaked from the oil filter a little. Perhaps the leak is somewhere above and just running down the filter. I know it is tight and I have used multiple brands to no avail.

Anyone else experienced this?

My Impreza leaks like the Exxon Valdez from the valve cover gaskets (a known issue so take a look at them) but never from the filter or drain plug. You might have a cover leak from the passenger-side front above the filter. You may also want to check if the spark plug boots have oil on them. Another reason to change the gaskets.

Gotta get mine changed someday soon...

It didn't get driven today, but I am hoping that it was just a poor seal on the oil filter, the leak started around the time that the oil was changed last (last year), but you are right, I have heard of this, as well as the halfmoon seals leaking, so it could be somewhere else. I am pushing that we get rid of the car, it has been nothing but problems since 70k miles ($3k of work, stupid stuff, totally jaded my view of Subaru, I think they are piles of [censored] now). I think that she senses my disdain for her, and that is why she acts out.

Nobody knows this filter, I might have to go and pull it out of the trash? I guess I could do a cut-away and inspect it as well...

Was it a Promotive filter? Advance sells them in their commercial sales.

I remember buying Powerflo and Proline filters at Pep Boys that were cheap and looked like Purolators.

I am not sure if that is what you have.

Yeah, I think that this was it! It said whatever brand, "By Purolator". It is not in the dump yet, when I make it back home I will pull it out and take some pic, and pop it open (Might be a few weeks out). Thanks, now I can do some research on it in the mean time!

Group 7?

People who own them have such cute bumper stickers, though.

IMO, with the exception of the name on the filter G7 and ProMotive (sold at AAP) are identical filters. Both commercial accounts filters made by Purolator. Check out the websites.

Group 7

ProMotive
