Geesh, maybe I've been on here too long and think that everyone is intelligent. Went to the local, Milo Gordon Honda, dealer in Lawton. I had a 100 gift card from American Honda Corporation to buy some parts, but they wouldn't accept it, long story....I'll just get it in OKC, they are a bunch of losers anyway....whenever you have a leach city like Lawton on a military base, they will absolutely put the screws to you anyway they can.....however.
As I was waiting for the manager, these two young girls walked in and wanted to know what type of oil to put in their 04 Honda. They said that the heard that Honda oil is very similar to Pennzoil. Well, the service manager jumps up and says no way. He said that their oil was specially formulated to meet the "needs" of Honda engines, these oils are only meant for Honda engines and will protect the engine better than any oil in the market. I started laughing and I just couldn't hold back. Of course, they were selling their oil at 4 bucks a quart
Since the store manager wouldn't oblige my AHC gift card, I left. Those girls were leaving too and I stopped them and told them how full of crap the service manager was. Explained that Honda does use an oil that has higher ATW compounds when they leave the factory, but after that, you can use just about any oil you want as long as you follow the recommended OCI's. They were shocked. As I was getting into my car and the girls were already leaving, I looked back and the service manager flipped me off. I called him a dumb-arshe and left. Geesh....I thought those kind of days were over in today's information age.
Then, I go to Advanced Auto parts to get some spark plugs and wires for my '90 Cutlass V6. Some new guy starts telling me that I need to use anti-seize on the sparkplugs or they will not come off when I take the plugs out the next time, and that I need di-electric grease on the spark plug boot or they will weld themselves to the spark plug. After a 15 second stare that resembled a "what kind of dumb arshe do you think I am?" I just said no thanks. Then he gets a semi-attitude and says "well, it's your engine." That was it....I ripped him a new one and went on about the dis-advantages of grease on sparkplugs, and the difference in metallurgy of dis-similar compounds, etc. etc. ALL of which I've learned right here.
Think I'll just start ordering all my stuff on the internet. Too bad, I really liked Advanced, they have always been helpful in the past.
