Admittedly I don't travel as much as you, or much at all which may account for the difference, but my recent 'hack' experience with Chase was the polar opposite.
Chase Freedom card hacked, got a call at home not long after it was hacked. Returned call to fraud center, charge inquiry, I replied nope not me. That account was closed, new cards expressed to me next day. Couldn't have been more pleased with Chase and their customer service.
Thinking the fact that you were traveling and continuing to use the same card explains the major difference in our experiences.
Guess I see the real villain here as the ahole who hacked the card in the first place.
