Thinkin on picking up a coupe of jus when they go on sale next.

Currently they have a huge sale on QS 10w30 and 5w30. The 4.4litre jugs are going for 17.35 (1/2 off the regular price). There wasn't any raincheques offered, so i missed out on the 5w30 for my Escort (it prefers that over M1 full syn (alot noisier on the M1 than the QS...maybe the moly levels?)

I plan on putting the CT Formula 1 5w50 in my 88 325is this summer if it's any good.

TIA

P.S. I checked the archives, but all I got was several posts about "3k mile OCI's"

Also,
I noticed the Valvoline 4.4 litre hi mileage full syn jugs are also on sale, but nobody is buying that stuff...even if there isn't anymore QS Full syn left.

Is the HM Valvoline syn really that bad? Ive heard of some on here who swear by it. Personally, since I fould that QS makes my car run so muhc quieter, there's no other, cheaper "full syn" oil for my Escort.

I'm currently running CT's full syn (Gold bottle)5W20 in my newly acquired Honda Fit and it's smooth as silk. My next round may be Syntec 5W20.

My take is that unless your engine is burning oil due to seal and valve stem seal leaks, otherwise, why bother with HM oil? HM oil may be appealing to some consumers out there (just like blu bottle AssTeePee), I can tell you that my 16yr old B6 block (sold it before I bought the Fit) has original cam/crank seals and valve stem seals inside through it's entire operating life( over 186,000kms clocked) and not a single leak even with ordinary Q-state syn and 1.5 yrs of the dreaded yellow bottle of wax. So, unless you have leaks, otherwise, stay away from HM oil (you are not supposed to reap in those kinds of benefits anyways).

Good luck! Keep a close eye on Crrappy Tire's MotoMaster oil sale.

The highlight of my week is on Friday night when the CT flyer arrives at my house! I've even got my 5 year old son getting all excited when he sees it now, he grabs it and runs around the house yelling "The new Canadian Tire flyer is here! The new Canadian Tire flyer is here!" just like I do! (fans of Steve Martin's The Jerk will know what I'm referring to)

Ditto Patman-

I'm the one who constantly bug everyone every Thursday evening, asking "....have you seen the latest CT flyer..?"

Wife said that this is madness, I called it pleasure of the week.

*grin*

I get quite grumpy if the flyer isn't on my doorstep on Friday night, and even more grumpy if it doesn't arrive on Saturday either!

my GF has come to understand that I NEED to constantly view the CT online flyer as that's the most foolproof way of getting all their sale items.

I've given up with Wal Mart's selection. Sure they have GC, but I don't run that, and they never have sales on there anyway (at least at mine they don't).

A buddy recommended I see "The Jerk", but I haven't goten around to it yet. Supposed to be really good

Currently I'm at 212,000kms on my 97 Escort, and it's never had any oil leaks or burning problems in the 60,000kms I've owned it. And that's taking into consideration the 20,000kms OCi's I was doing with M1 5W30 for a while. Tho I did do a filter change, and M1 top up at the 10,000kms in between which i think helped protect the M1 from shearing down too much.

So is the CT Formula 1 oil any good? I've searched used oil analysis' all the way back to 2004, but no dice

Once in a while my local Walmart has some decent sales, such as about 3 years ago when they sold off a bunch of 4L jugs of GTX for only $5 each! But for the most part I've given up on Walmart as well, their oil selection is not even close to that of Canadian Tire. It used to be the other way around, but CT has really added a ton of new oils in the last few years. I wish their oil filter selection was better though. If they would add Wix filters to their lineup I'd be in heaven!

You've just gotta see this movie! An all time classic! But see the real version, not the edited for TV version which is missing way too much good stuff.

In a nutshell, the scene I'm referring to is one where Steve is living in the back room of a gas station and he gets all excited because the new phone book arrives and he knows his name is in there for the first time in his life. So when the phone book arrives he grabs it and runs around screaming "the new phone book's here! the new phone book's here!" So that's what I'm mimicking whenever my CT flyer arrives.

(I also did the same thing last week when our new phone book arrived!)

The following scene is even funnier, because a wacko sniper also gets his new phone book, flips through the pages and with his eyes closed he points to a random name, and it just happens to be Navin Johnson! (Steve's character) So he goes across the street from the gas station and starts shooting at Navin, but his first shot misses and hits one of the oil cans at the gas station instead. It springs a leak and Navin is puzzled, then more cans start "leaking" and he spots the sniper and yells out "he hates these cans!"

Expand your search to include Formula Shell, since it should be the same oil as what CT sells. (hopefully Shell is not selling CT a watered down version)

Nah, the flyer is useless. Like this sale, for a single day?!?

When they have a decent oil on sale for a decent price then it is for a single day and/or shelf is empty and/or wrong grade and/or .... I just don't care for rainchecks, too much hassle.

I don't get very excited any more. Just went for lunch to pick up a few things. I now go prepared to NOT find the items that are on sale, at least when it comes to oil.

I've had good luck with oil sales at CT, I've yet to get there and find they are sold out. Mind you I always go first thing Saturday morning, so that's the very first day of the sales. It might be different towards the end of the sale week.

In terms of other non automotive things though, I've often showed up a couple of hours after they opened on a Saturday and already found the item sold out. This has happened at least a half dozen times now. You'd think that CT head office would tell the stores when something is going on sale so they could stock up, but they don't. So they might only carry 2 or 3 of an item that is going on sale, so most people who get there (except for the first 2 or 3!) go home disappointed, or go home with rain checks, or end up just buying a similar item at a higher price.

CT full syn is good, IMHO and the general concensus indicated that it may be Shell, PetroCan or Esso/ImperialOil varieties, and either one of these suppliers are fine.

I personally don't think it's a watered down motor oil for I've used in on my dad's 7th gen civic (after CT jacked up Q-state green bottle 5W20 pricing) and no issues whatsoever.

Unless I can lay my hands on some reasonably priced Eneos, Idemitsu or Mitsubishi oil, otherwise, I will pretty much stay with NA national brands such as CT's gold bottle syn, Esso full syn (the gold bottle with a tiger on the label) and/or Syntec5W20. While I do have the occasional urge to go with Motorcraft semi-syn 5W20 (red bottle/jug) but it's not that easy to come by here in Western Canada (I will have to drive south across the border into Wallymart in order to get them).

RE CT sales item, I second Patman's observation that you shall seriously consider hitting their door on the wee early hours on Saturday morning for those Sat door crashers. Otherwise, go with Friday's sale items before it's too late.

I managed to get hold of 8bottles of CT syn gold bottles of 5W20 during the last sale (litre) and also some syntec 5W30.

Anything that you managed to miss out, unless it's written on the flyer that "limited to stock on hand" or "no rainchecks", otherwise, always get a raincheck for you may never know when the sale comes back again.

CT is fun I tell ya! I get Monroe pads for 20~25% off which works out to slightly better pricing than our local aftermarket parts shop RE: Bendix, Raybestus, etc. and the best part of it is that it already comes with factory shims on the pads, and that saves me another 15CAD from those stooopid parts shop (you have to order them separately).

The only thing that our local aftermarket parts shop can beat CT is their Gunk brake parts cleaner spray regularly sells for 2.88CAD per can, which I find it really difficult to resist.

That is completely cute! I can picture him all happy and running to you.

i have three jugs of the 5w20 from the sale three weeks ago. It went on sale for $19.99 i believe.

It is Shell synthetic oil, I confirmed through a call to Shell Headquarters.

I wonder if the 5w20 synthetic is a Shell made oil though? I know the rest of the lineup is supplied by Shell, but I notice that Shell does not make a synthetic 5w20, at least not according to this site, which has their technical data sheets:

http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/product_list.php?subcatid=6

Maybe Canadian Tire gets the 5w20 synthetic from Petro Canada perhaps?

Same with 5w50, CT sells a synthetic version of that, but Shell does not make one. Now that I think about it, maybe it comes from Quaker State! For that matter, does Quaker State make a 5w20 synthetic?

Q.

When was this sale on? was it within the last 6-8 months? i know that items usually only go on sale about 1-2 times per year, but I also knwo that the parts (or any other clerk at CT) can look up on their LAN system to determine when next a product will be going on sale, as well as when last it was on sale....

awe nm, i'll just call CT and ask someone when next it will be goin on sale

See if they'll tell you the next time their conventional Formula 1 is going on sale as well, I'd like to pick up some 5w20 for my wife's Honda.
