Can these two greases be mixed,

This is in a Toyota land cruiser. I used this http://www.valvoline.com/our-products/grease-gear-oil/palladium-grease for the wheel bearings and birfields, I prefer to use one type of grease because the two areas can and will get to each other. However the palladium sucks as a wheel bearing grease.

I want to go back to this http://www.valvoline.com/our-products/grease-gear-oil/general-multi-purpose-grease in the wheel bearings. But not sure if the two are compatible. What says yall

Yea they are both Lithium Complex grease so mix away. Try to get the Valvoline GM Multi grease, its red and a little better rated for wheel bearings.
 
It's a long story that ended in me not going with my tried and true choice. I screwed up is about all I can say. But the synpower can't be mixed with these from what I've read
 
Synpower has moly, so it's eliminated for the front bearings and u-joints. Works fine in the driveshaft/propeller slider

They're all lithium complex and can be interchanged without issue (from a compatibility standpoint).

Ashland is one of the shadiest pushers when it comes to marketing. It is better to ask failure analysis engineers from Toyota. Moly is excellent in applications where it is required. There are also 'recommended' and 'desirable' grey areas. This topic has been beaten to more than one death years ago.

...then you'd think you wouldn't be putting out incorrect information, huh? Having an axe to grind with how Ashland conducts business isn't a substitute for understanding the tribological behaviors of this product.
 
What you are doing is called mirroring in psychology.

What 'tribological behaviors' make up your faith that moly is recommended in friction bearings?
 
Congrats on hitting a plethora of logical fallacies. You jumped into this thread and said that a product specifically recommended by Valvoline for an application is not correct. The burden of proof is on you...and no one else. If you're going to call them out, then do so with data that's relevant to this specific product.

You want to talk about moly in a generalized context (purposefully so, I presume), while I'm speaking specifically about Valvoline SynPower; I'd highly encourage you to go look at the additive package & concentration percentage before continuing to make erroneous statements.
 
Concentration percentages vary by markets according to their papers. You can look those up; different values between Canada, USA, Europe, Asia. I have done my homework and posted them here before. Why wouldn't one get the decent product at an attractive price and available locally? Toyota recommends against it, so why would I care about Ashland marketing claims? Synpower could be a good remedy for a neglected slider with a crusty seal, as it's base oil is on a low side is in viscosity, needs frequent replenishments. Their Palladium and other metal-named lines are not the best match on anything in Landcruisers, at least UJ100 and UJ200 I have and maintain.They are too thick and overheat. They try to make a foray into industrial sector with those, this is where real money is. The few greases with solid lubricant additives that are not building upon themselves are prohibitively expensive for most. Unless you buy into particle size threshold nonsense put out by sales folks. Although, OP could procure Lubrication Engineers Almagard, cost/benefit ratio may be too high. You are the one who hijacked the thread. You won, I lost. By all means, put a moly fortified grease into your Landcrusiser front axle, especially the needle shaft bearing and the grooved brass bushing.

If OP is looking for a something to simplify his life, Chevron Delo EP 2 could be used in both u-jounts and the slider. It is also good for the front wheel bearings; the inner needle bearing call for #1 grease, but I haven't found a single dealership that goes past #2 for everything. Lexus dealerships around me use a MP grease from BG. Of course, dedicated shops and DIYers go the proper route, he could try Delo EP 1 for the #1 application. Chevron greases are cheap at local distributors. Chevron Delo ESI is an extended service interval product, and is one of few on Mercedes Benz global Approval list for high temp bearing greases, but it's shortcoming is a tight low temp floor - not recommended below -18C realistically (even though their literature points to lower values on a different line). Delo EP literature is not guaranteeing extended service interval, yet states 'for those seeking extended service' and is a very good product for around $3 per cartridge (if you buy in bulk from a distributor). Mobil Mobilgrease XHP 222 line is an extended service line and XHP 221 could be used by a stickler to specs for #1 grease. XHP Special line contains 0.75% moly and is specifically recommended for sliders.
There is a lot of good general purpose grease out there, one doesn't have to go out his ways to get a fancy one. If his unit is a hundy, the initial protocol was to grease every 3k miles and to change engine oil every 7.5k miles. Later on they prescribed everything at 5k miles for US, then for NA and later for the rest of the world.
 
It's an 80 series, I don't have any brass.

I prefer to run one type of grease in the knuckle, birfields,and the wheel bearings because whether I or anyone else want to admit it, they can and will mix when it gets hot.
 
FWIW, Synpower has approx 1% moly per my previous inquiries to Valvoline. I have used this in u-joints and wheel bearings.
 
Zukinut, you really won't be mixing the grease in the wheel bearing application. Clean out the old before packing with new. You can probably purge or clean the Birfield joints too. Its not rocket science, select a high quality, multipurpose grease that is tacky, washout resistant, and good temperature range for your use and stick with it. If you are putting that Tieyooder in the rough stuff, you will be lubing often any way.

Prs, the buggy always got red high temp because I was taking it down after every ride. The cruiser sees each more highway than trail, I'm just trying to find something that won't wash out so I can drive it back home to service it. It doesn't get a trailer ride like the buggy. A trashed bearing on the side of the road with 2 kids and a wife would surely suck, haha.

The cruiser is no longer full time 4wd so it's not as important that the birfields get a moly grease
