Can someone enlighten me about air compressor setup

So I have my trusty Thomas 7 Gallon Portable Compressor that I use for my home projects - mainly for the Senco Nailers.

I just picked up a Ingersoll Rand 3/8" Impact Wrench. Mainly just to use on the car now that I've started becoming a wrench monkey.

With that said, are filters, lubricators, etc that important ? I've never used it on my Senco Nailers, etc. Just plugged it straight to the compressor. However, I was mindful to blow out the foam filter on the unit every time and prior to using it, I would run a full tank dry from the bottome *drain screw* to get rid of any water that was in the tank.

I assume the filter would be beneficial for the tools since it would remove water from the *surrounding air* , etc. With my usage/setup, should I go ahead and purchase it, mount it to a plywood and just use it ad-hoc plugged into my portable compressor ?

for what you're doing I wouldn't worry about any filters or oilers. I don't like mist oiler personally. they eventually soak the inside of your hoses with oil. in doing this it makes them totally unsuitable if you ever decide to use the compressor to paint with. A couple of drops of oil each time ( or even every other time) you use the impact will be plenty.

Get some proper air tool oil and keep your compressor tank drained. I have several Ingersoll air ratchets and impacts as well as some Snap-On impacts that are over 15 years old and still work without a hitch. Inline oilers are a pain and as mentioned above can damage the liner in your hoses. Sucks also when you decide to paint a car and have to get all new hoses because of oil contamination.

The manual states that I should run the tool Always with a inline oiler. I'm not sure how true that is.

Should I just put 3 drops on the inlet each time I run the tool ? Is that more than sufficient ?
