Can I weld this?

Been noticing a rattling noise under the car and found this exhaust hanger at the cat cracked. Cat is still firmly attached elsewhere but assume the vibration is causing the noise. Seems like a simple welding job with my 110V Lincoln unit? Should I disconnect the battery first?

You are never wrong to disconnect the negative ground. But if you clamp the ground close to what you weld, you should be fine. I would put a heat-sink above the area so you dont heat up the rubber part of the hanger. ( small vise grip with a wet cloth.

You can tack that back together but it probably won't hold. I'd tack the crack, then put a small piece of bar across the U section And weld that across it as well.

Clean that as much as you are able , to clean metal.

Make sure there are no fuel vapors , or leaky anything that can ignite.

Looks a bit cold, but hopefully will hold. Good Job.

Let us know how it does. If it doesn't you always have the option of a small bar or plate welded into the inside radius.
