hi all! IM gunna depart with my 95 neon soon..after 4 headgasket problems, over the past 12 years, rotted looking brake lines, and 224,000 miles now, i think its time. i will miss it..
I do have a nice stash of oil fitlers ive built up on them. 3614 filters...i am registering a 98 toyota corolla, 4 quart oil capicity..its a smaller filter..can i use the 3614's on the corolla? dont wanna just check em for nothing.

I don't think so, I believe the Corolla calls for the 4317. On a side note, you can use the Motorcraft FL400S/910S on these motors!

per wix site-- you can, rolla calls for shorter version.
go to wix site, search cross reference of 3614, than for 95 neon and then for 98 rolla and compare.

Also stick to the correct filter size, if it were OK to use a bigger filter the manufacturer would call for it.

Actually, the Corolla filters come in 2 different lengths; the 93-97s spec the L14476 style Purolator filter, and the 98s+ spec the L14477 style. Everything else is the same. Those are Purolator's part numbers.

Yes I know, use to change oil for three years for a living lol. I'm trying to discourage him from using the wrong filter. Use what it calls for!

Also you should've used the MLS head gasket the first time and would also be the last, neons are great cars if taken care of properly.

OK, cool! I have a Corolla and don't use the 3614 sized filters, but I know people with Corolla's use them.

Ziggy, you can search on this site or www.corollaand.com to find info about using 3614 filters on Corollas.

^sure is cool... if u want a bigger filter go with a 4670, want bigger? Crank on a viper/ T1 filter...

to OP, i would offer to take those 3614's off your hands, but i just bought a whole bunch of filters from another guy on here... enough that w/ 6mo oil changes, and what i already had stashed, i'm set until...2020...or so...

If there's enough room for your 3614-types-that is, you can get 'em on & then off again-, I say use 'em & don't worry. My 97 Neon ran all of its second hundred thousand miles using the larger PH16 types(since we're using the EvilFram # system here!). BTW- those PH16-size filters were the original filters on the 1995 Neons. Official recommendation & factory installation didn't go to the smaller filter until the 96 model year.

Don't worry, your Toyota will do fine on them.

Awesome! looking at both wix website someone posted here, the threads are the same, and so is the PSI pressure..it should work then!
neons are a fun car...but going through 2 head gasket jobs in 3 years, another failure, bandaided with nanotech stuff, which failed after 8 months, and another product i bought, which yuo leave in the coolant without draining..which has held up for the past 2 years..the head is prob milled beyond its limit. the rear calipers have seen way better days ( bleeder screws def appear to look corroded n seized up ect) the entire rear of the car, bolts included, are so rusty, thier flaking* its not a Bentley or rolls royce! got the car for $3,700 back in 2000, with 34,000 miles on it, from a subaru dealer. here it is 2012, after all ive said, and one brake line that was rooted nad broke on me last year, fixed, the other one isnt...spending about $5-$7000 already, from exhaust system, too calipers, front end, fabric inside is coming off..and even after numerous flushing of the engine oil..after 3 months its still pitch black and thick..i do LOTS of stop n go traffic, but its sen better days. i have the model witht he blue paint that chips off...they knew about it chrysler but used it anyway..having to find the closest paint to match, its ghettoish looking.
thanks for the replys all!!!

If it will take 3614 filter dimensions, should it not also take a filter like a TG3600** type (the Tough Guard) or a flock of other filters like the PH8A** or its dimensional twins? I am not talking just Frams, I am talking everything else that will fit that class of thread and gasket, life for instance, the MOBIL EXTENDED PERFORMANCE M1-102.

**IF there is enough room in the engine compartment. A bif IF.

It needs the 3/4-16 thread to fit a 3614 type. Better check, but if 3600's and 3614's fit, then you have a whole new world of filter availability.

yes the m1-102 is the spec'd m1 filter for the neon. i have one in my stash..
granted my neon is a 2005, but it still uses the same filters(mostly) Largely the same engine.

neon/Vibe Filter guide the recommended filters for the 2 cars in my sig.
(prob a lot of overlap/repetition in the Bosch section)

A while back I Started looking @ the thread & overall diameter, etc. of the filters for the cars my family has.
if i remember correctly, i could use(in theory) the same Filters on my Neon, Mom's Old 99Taurus(3.0 Vulcan), My Brother's 2 Mustangs (98 & 06 GT's), My Sister's 08 Caravan & 01 Windstar, and Dad's 05 Freestyle, & Uncle's 06 Zephyr (both Duratec 3.0l)

Please explain, in detail, EXACTLY how using a larger filter on my Jeep or the OP's Corolla will harm anything. Be specific.
