Can I reuse my OEM shock parts rather then the KYB small parts?

Hey all, I did my rear shocks on my 14 acura rdx the other day and once I got deep into the job, i realized the KYB shocks were missing the pack of small parts such as washers, rubber bushings, and the metal collar, Of course the cover and the bump stop still came with the shock.

I was already deep in the install so I just made it work with whatever I had left from my old OEM shock. I used the OEM rubber bushing and just reinstalled with the old washers etc

I think it all sounds and drives fine but i wanted to ask if I should source those other kyb small parts and redo it in a few weeks or is it fine? The only part that OEM did not have was the metal collar piece so mine currently dont have a collar installed but then again im not sure why OEM wouldn't have that and the KYB would.

I attached a pic of the collar thing, I believe it just sticks on the shock metal rod kinda like a sleeve

I’ve had to do the same on two different vehicles using KYB shocks. Even had to reuse the old shocks top mount nuts. The ones they gave me wouldn’t fill the hole. I’ve had no issues with either vehicle (yes, correct part numbers were used).

awesome thanks! i was more worried about not using the collar thing cuz oem didn't have that but i assume should be fine, whatever that thing does

I often cherry pick the hardware I like the most from existing vs new.

There was some talk about KYB claiming you must use their provided nuts on struts or you'd trash their strut mount. The logic doesn't make sense to me and I have to wonder if it wasn't KYB scrambling for excuses for crappy parts, but I don't know that.

Quite often the main shaft nut provided with struts is inferior and the OEM nut is a nice, tall flange nut. After verifying thread pitches are the same I'll often use the better flange nut when assembling new struts with old springs.

ahh yes i saw that too, maybe its because some of the oem nuts are locking nuts and shouldnt be reused? and the only way to see if a consumer will follow the instructions is to make it seems worse if they dont?

maybe an expert here can chime in
