Can I make my own distilled water?

Wow I wish water was that cheap.

My wife and I average 40-50 / month for water/sewage. Around here, nobody in their right mind would water their yard unless they have a well or have money to burn.

I know--note that I was the one who pointed out that fact in my earlier post.

For coolant use, running it through a coffee filter will be fine. People who think the water needs to be even cleaner are too picky.

I do it all the time and cannot think of a reason not to use it. Like the OP I already have it, its does not pay to run the dehumidifier just for the pure water but if you already have it why not use it?

It costs me about .75 cents per gallon to make it so it wouldnt pay just to turn the dehumidifier on for making water but like now The basement needs to dry out a little so I am running it.

Not sure I would use it from an ac just because it is so slow and may have mold or more dust in it but in the dehumidifier I clean that out I doubt a spec of dust is going to hurt anything.

you could... but I would bet distilled water is more pure. and at less than 99 cents per gallon its hard to beat.

The water you would get is unlikely to be pure and mineral free, especially after filtering it. I am unsure what type of filter you plan on using but I am sure if the filter is not designed to filter out minerals, it may add more. If you are dead set on using the dehumidifier water or tap water, I would go with the dehumidifier water.
