can faulty CV axle cause leaks?

My CV axles and seals are new... however, 2 days ago the right side axle is leaking on the inner. The mechanic said that if the seals are good, it can be poorly built/rebuilt cv axle.. can a poorly built CV axle cause transmission leaks?

like any other shaft if it has a groove or other damage it will cause a leak.

Isn't it also possible that the seal was damaged during installation of the new CV axle?

it is possible but a little unusual.

I would first suspect the seal. Any defect or tear during installation will likely cause a leak. Were the seals installed dry? Are the seals missing their garter spring? A good inspection of the seals will reveal the cause of the leak.

With an otherwise good seal, the axle can cause a leak with any of the following conditions:

- axle shaft is undersized
- axle shaft is oval
- axle shaft ground surface is poor or has improper lead-in

Right. A probable installation problem.
Somebody damaged the seal.
It did not leak before, and now it does.
