Can Barely Fill up My Gas Tank

Out of the blue, it took me over 10 minutes to fill up my '05 LS430. I could get about a half a pee stream in without it cutting off the pump. And my tank was practically empty. Now, I only drive this car about once/month with it sitting so long without cranking that the battery has to be charged...if that helps in diagnosis. Scotty Kilmer told me on his live YouTube that the first thing I should check is the "Evaporative Canister Vent Valve." After that I should go to the dealer. What do y'all think?
 
The valve may be bad or one of the lines may be plugged.

I think Mazda had a recall where there were spiders building nests in the vent tube and the tank didn't like to be filled.
 
Happens very often on the MIL's 2011 Sonata (lives near dirt roads).

She has to go get the lines cleared out with compressed air once every 4-5 months. Not covered under warranty either

Had this on my daughter's Corolla. Remove the spider web/nest and I could fill it again.

Happened to my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. Turned out to be a broken gas tank strap. The tank was hanging down pinching off the filler hose against the frame.

I sold my 1994 LS400 because I drove it no more than 1-2 times a month last year.
 
A lot of people like to "round up" their gas purchase after the nozzle shuts off. Not a good practice anymore. The extra fuel can overflow and saturate the charcoal canister, causing venting problems, a symptom of which is the "trickle fill".

It's best to stop filling completely when the nozzle shuts off.

If you stop overfilling, the condition may rectify itself in several months when the excess fuel in the canister has had a chance to evaporate and dissipate.

I learned this years ago. I only go to the very first "Click".

Well, guess what? After using about 1/2 tank of gas, I opened the tank and I heard a loud sucking noise followed by the noise of gasoline going somewhere. It sounded like a water fall. Anyways, I continued driving the car until it was time to fill up again. I went to the pump but started out real slow in anticipation of it cutting off. It didn't. I opened the nozzle on the pump to wide open and everything is perfectly fine. It filled up quickly and I never had it click off. I have no idea what happened but all is well. I am a happy camper! Go figure...
