I bought a 1996 Honda Accord about 4 months ago and have slowly but surely been doing all the little things to bring the car up to snuff since then. At the moment, it has just over 100,000 miles on it and I've been considering doing an A-RX flush on it (I don't know if it's sludged/carboned up at all, this would just be a preventative thing), but I'm a bit wary of doing this sort of thing to this old of an engine. So basically what I'm asking is would there be a chance of damaging a relatively high-mileage engine by flushing it?

On a side note, I doubt this car has ever seen synthetic oil in its life, and I don't plan to use any. Castrol or Pennzoil 5w30 every 3k miles so far.

It is NOT a flush...it is an enzyme that slowly ...slowly re4moves sludge/dirt from the metallic surface..it takes around 3000 miles to complete the cycle...if it could harm youor engine..why would frank sell it??

I don't know, sometimes people sell #@$%! products. Chrysler sells cars, for example.

Joking aside, I don't know anything about this particular product, except what it's called and (very loosely) what it does, that's why I asked.

I remember a guy who was a mechanic who said in a post at this website that he tried Auto-RX on a guy's car or truck that seemed hopeless-it was so sludged up. But the engine was nearly finished anyway. Well, the engine was saved it that vehicle.

If a car or truck engine is so sludged up the owner of the vehicle is worried that the engine might be damaged by an Auto-RX cleaning, that engine must be in really bad shape-not far from the auto junkyard anyway. Can the Auto-RX cleaning do any harm? Maybe change the oil filter a few times during the Auto-RX cleaning.

If the engine is so sludged up that it risks running afoul, I wouldn't even dare/tempt running AutoRx in fear of liability. Afterall: a spun bearing is a spun bearing no matter how the customer sees it.

If the customer can be trusted then yes, use AutoRx. I've seen/encountered far to many dombaaas before and believe me: you don't wanna touch on any of these sludged up/severely neglected engines to begin with. Let them die of natural cause on the highway and the customer will have nothing to blame but the sky and the weather... *grin*

You did not say much about how the vehicle runs and have you tried to take a peek inside the engine? If the van runs real good the engine can't be in that bad of shape. If it is black with sludge inside the engine you have a problem.

Auto-RX cleans slowly however and surely would be better than say using Amsoil Engine Flush. The flush might remove too much stuff too quickly. But you could change the oil filter 3-4 times during thew cleaning period.

Engine runs fine, gets just a hair under 30 mpg every fillup like clockwork, I've peeked under the oil cap with a flashlight and the valvetrain looks to be in good shape. This would just be a little preventative maintenance based on mileage and the fact that I don't know what's happened to the car over the first 100k miles of its life.

It's due for an oil and filter change soon anyways, that's why I'm asking now. I'd just put the stuff in then.

Auto-RX is the product to use. will clean the ring pack which is certainly plugged by 100k miles.

never heard of an engine damaged by Auto-RX...gentle effective cleaner.

just follow directions on bottle and site
can you run your present oil now for another 2000 miles? if yes, just dump it in now

that Honda can easily last 300k miles + with care and maint.

Use as directed and I would say that there is not any possibility of ARX doing any damage to your motor. Your Honda seems to have at least reasonable care. Use it and enjoy.

Auto-Rx can not hurt your engine in any way. It cleans the metal slowly, and the things it cleans, is being transported to the oil-filter. When the metal is clean, the oil will perform better, since it is designed to do its job on clean metal. It is importent to have a new oil-filter in both clean and rinse phase. There have never been reported any damage because of Auto-Rx, that I know of.

Auto-Rx can not damage anything. It is an ecological metal cleaner and seal rejuvenator no solvents-no petrolueum additives just natural ingredients.

By the way look for post on Mobil 1 and Auto-Rx perhaps tonight.

No it wont harm your engine it will make it happy. Auto RA is NOT a sovent. I would put it in my $3500 motor without thinking twice about it (0n second thought I use the maintance dose every oil change) Its good stuff.

I want to try it on my 95 Integra and on my gf old beater 85 Accord. Its just something that gets me worried about trying it on a old car like hers.

I have often wondered how the stuff ends up in the oil filter. It must go thru the oil pump rotors and then to the filter. How can this NOT harm the oil pump? On my 91' Lincoln, the particles in the oil filter were very hard feeling and very abrasive. On an old 85' crown vic, the oil pump was bad at 130k, the rotors were pitted and scratched badly. This was with 3k oil changes all the time. I think certain oil pumps can be less tolerant. Maybe someone can answer this.
