Camry Running Rough After Fill-up

My daughter's 1992 Camry 4 cyl was running fine when she pulled into the gas station. She filled up and let the pump auto stop and did not top off. When she started the car up, it now runs rough, especially with the air on. The gas cap is on correctly. Her tank was not completely empty as her low fuel light was not on.

Any thoughts as too what to look at first?

Make sure there's no water in the gas, check fuel pressure, and maybe change the fuel filter are things that I'd look at first.

I would run it off as much as possible, then refill with good quality gasoline.

Fuel filter sounds like a good idea as I am not sure when/if it has ever been changed. She filled up at a BP, so not a low end gas station. My wife also filled up at the same station 10 minutes later and has no problems.

Run a can of quality fuel injector in the gas tank.

Ddi she fill up while the tanker truck was refilling the underground tankls? If so, could be sediment.

I did ask her if a truck was in the station, but she said she did not see one. Does not mean that one hadn't just left. I called the station manager and he is going to check the filter of the pump she used.

Any thoughts on trying a can of Heat in case it's just water? Or does fuel injector cleaner also contain a drying agent..

Get on over to NAPA and pick up a can of BK44 and run that through her gas. That's the best fuel system cleaner I've ever used. Spendy, but worth it IMO.

I've also heard good stuff about the Chevron Techron cleaner and something called Regain, but I've never used them.

Injector cleaners won't get the water out if there is any there. You need isopropyl alchohol.

I just put a bottle of Iso Heat in the tank and drove around for 25 miles. Any idea how long it may take the water to be removed, if there is water in the tank, with a gas drying agent?

Redline claims that their SI-1 injector cleaner can remove small quantities of water while lubricating the injectors. There's something about water alone that isn't good with injectors. They also have a dedicated water remover product that doesn't contain alcohol.

A lot of the products suggested might contain solvents that might serve to mix the water and fuel.

Isn't most fuel in the Midwest oxygenated? If there's already 8-10% ethanol in there, I don't think isopropyl alcohol is going to do much more.

If the rough running happened immediately upon starting up, it couldn't be the new gas, as it would take several minutes to purge the old fuel before any possibly contaminated gas entered the system. Perhaps it's a broken gas cap? Or fuel got into the evap loop (what's it called?) from over filling?
