Camry or Accord

but Ive heard that owners of those cars complain about rattles, sunroof issues, and similar, just the same as anyone else does.

Its a nice car, but not worth it to pay $30k for a 4cyl euro accord, IMO. This car should be priced at about $25k with the MT and it would be a nice deal.

Actually, he's right. I know the Camry V6 needs premium to achieve the HP and so does the Avalon. Not sure about Honda. With a 10.0:1 compression, I wouldn't be suprised. The VTEC system works different compared to the VVT-i system. VVT-i works throughout the whole RPM range, where as VTEC works above a certain RPM. I know on the earlier Honda Oddessey vans, premium was required to get the 215hp.

If it knocks... there's something wrong. The 3.0L V6 with VVT-i has knock sensors to prevent this so have it looked at ASAP. It should be able to take regular with no problems.
 
The V6 Accords, both 6th and 7th generations, take regular fuel, not premium. If the Camry takes premium, then that just about settles it for me, Accord will get my money. Also, I know you can still run regular in premium, but I ain't going to do it. Too much risk.
 
its not necessarily too much risk... It depends on engine design.

For example, my saab has an advanced engine management system. One of the (probably simplest) tasks that it has to do is check for knock. My engine is designed to take advantage of 87-90 octane fuel. It will advance the timing as far as possible up to some 'standard advance' which is the theoretical point at which 90 octane would knock. It will not advance past that point. But, if it hears knocking, it will retard back to the theoretical point whenre 87 octane would run optimally.

But I doubt youll find out about much of that sensor stuff from a dealer. Your best bet would probably be to talk to the dealer's shop foreman. He may help you make your decision the best, by providing you with thechnical info.

I'd *really* take a close look at the TSX. Failing that, I'd love an 03+ Accord. I have an 02 Accord V6 LX (as you know), and I love it. The 03+ have knock sensors and you /do/ get another +10HP with premium, not that I'd run premium. The additional 40 ponies and vastly nicer power curve over the 02's doesn't hurt, and neither does the transmission (it's quite nice, despite the 03 problems).

If you go manual, well, I wish I had a manual, too, esp. a Honda manual.

LOL, I hate to have arguments with what everyone says, but I HATE honda manuals. I have driven numerous acura MT cars, and cant stand them at all. Dont compare in the slightest to my 14 y.o. BMW's manual trans, and I doubt are any closer to a new BMW MT.

Its similar in action to my saab's MT, but still not great... my BMW and saab allow me to shift as fast as my arms and legs can move. The acura trans, not so much.

I apologize, everyone's preference is different, as mine obviously is. Its just that if I could change one thing on my GF's integra, it would be the transmission. It sucks, and others' havent been any better.

I suspect that some automakers specify that their engine requires premium gas because it appears to be more impressive to the prospective purchaser, not because it's actually required, especially when you can find an engine of similar HP and displacement (EDIT: compression ratio too) from another automaker that only needs regular gas.
 
My father has 2 Camry's and I like Honda's. I believe that the Camrys are quieter than Honda's.

Honda seems to ride better and I like the seats. I like the engine and transmission on Honda's.

Honda's have a history of transmission problems and the Camrys are affectionately known as sludge monsters because of their engines. With Bitog like maintenence both should last you a good long time with trouble free performance.

The Toyota seems cheap compared with the Honda but thats personal preference. I would give a very slight nod to Honda but I dont think you would go wrong either way. With gas mileage going up to the stratosphere Id probably go with whatever model gave you the best gas mileage. Id say its so close between them that that might be the difference maker.

One other factor that may or may not be important to you is that Honda is almost an American company these days. I think my Honda had almost 80% parts content from America, was manufactured in America and is listed on the NYSE. Toyota may be close as well but Im not sure about them.

Id still probably let gas mileage be the factor that makes the difference but then again Im not into buying cars for looks or paint colors etc.....

my wife just got a new solara with a v6 (with vvti). it recommends high(er) octane, especially for spirited driving. she drives low mileage, so we're trying 89 right now.

it's a really nice car, btw.
 
The 5spd in my car is among the smoothest I've ever driven. If you read some of the reviews on Edmunds/R&T/Newcartestdrive/Car and Driver etc., you'll find they all praise the Accord. Believe me, I didn't plan on buying an Accord, especially the 2.4L 4cylinder but after reading the reviews of it and test driving it, it changed my mind.

*I keep hearing people say Toyota isn't as good as they used to be. Says who? All the data shows they are consistantly better in quality and havn't slipped. Tack on the volume they are dealing with and it's quite impressive.
 
Coke or Pepsi take your choice, these two cars are essentially at that level with respect to each other.
 
Take each car out for a long test drive .Then go home and think about the good points vs. the bad points . Then go from there.
