Looking for the best filter for my Cooper S R59. OEM, Purflux, Mann, something else? On my BMW I always used Mann filters. The Mann HU711/51x goes for under$10. Any preferences and why?
See my sig, Purflux L358A. It's same on all N12 to N18 engines.
Why? It's the OE BMW/Mini filter, it's probably synthetic media,
it's rather cheap (paid ~4 €), it's so nice with its chevron pattern,
it works for me. Next to a bunch of Purfluxes I still have a Mann
HU711/51x on spare which I paid roughly the same for. I had no
occasion to try it so far. I'm running Mann only in my GTI. To my
eyes and 'finger feel' both are very well made. Some pictures of
a used L358A:

That's what I was trying to say. The entire oil filter and bracket assembly is designed
and manufactured by Sogefi/Purflux, they have a long lasting relationship with PSA. .

Purflux is rather popular on French and Italian cars. You'll find them on several Ferraris
and Maseratis as OE. While Mann is kind of my default choice I'd trust Purflux the same. .
I got ahold of a Mann HU711/51x. That thing is tiny. Never had a car with such a tiny oil filter. There is an interesting plastic structure inside the filter hole. The drain plug washer is also on the cute side. Mini indeed!
