Looking for the best filter for my Cooper S R59. OEM, Purflux, Mann, something else? On my BMW I always used Mann filters. The Mann HU711/51x goes for under$10. Any preferences and why?

See my sig, Purflux L358A. It's same on all N12 to N18 engines.
Why? It's the OE BMW/Mini filter, it's probably synthetic media,
it's rather cheap (paid ~4 €), it's so nice with its chevron pattern,
it works for me. Next to a bunch of Purfluxes I still have a Mann
HU711/51x on spare which I paid roughly the same for. I had no
occasion to try it so far. I'm running Mann only in my GTI. To my
eyes and 'finger feel' both are very well made. Some pictures of
a used L358A:

Thanks for the reply. I'm unfaniliar with Purflux. I does look like the Mini-branded filter is a rebranded Purflux.

That's what I was trying to say. The entire oil filter and bracket assembly is designed
and manufactured by Sogefi/Purflux, they have a long lasting relationship with PSA.

A French filter on a PSA-designed engine in a German-owned British brand. I can sense an impending identity crisis. 😜

Mann is the safe choice.. although I’ve used Mahle as well. No noticeable difference when using either.

I use them on my 2007 Mini Cooper S, and my mom’s 2015 Mini Cooper (turbo 3 cylinder). No complaints. 😎

Purflux is rather popular on French and Italian cars. You'll find them on several Ferraris
and Maseratis as OE. While Mann is kind of my default choice I'd trust Purflux the same.

Feel free getting a Coopers-FIAMM. Same as Purflux obviously.

Supposedly the Purflux L398A has the same fitment as the L358A.

Just different type of filter media? I never found an answer on this.

I got ahold of a Mann HU711/51x. That thing is tiny. Never had a car with such a tiny oil filter. There is an interesting plastic structure inside the filter hole. The drain plug washer is also on the cute side. Mini indeed!
