I'm getting parts for a break job. I've ordered the pads and rotors and am about to order the calipers. I've only done one brake job before and it was several years ago on a different vehicle. I reused the old calipers so I don't know what to look for in buying them.

This time around I'm going to put on new calipers. But I don't know whether I need to buy the "mounting bracket included" calipers or if I can get the ones without the bracket included. As far as I know the pins and bracket of the old ones are fine.

What do you guys typically do?

If you are going to replace the calipers, then I would buy the bracket as well.

Question would be why you need to replace them though. Plan for all four? New seals and a good cleaning isn't enough? Existing Damage?

I'm replacing the calipers mainly because of this (http://www.ucx.com/documents/squareseal.pdf) which someone else posted on another thread. The vehicle has the original calipers and is 7 years old with 110k miles, so it is probably time to replace the calipers.

I just don't know if it makes a difference to buy the bracket or not? Or is using the old bracket and pins (and greasing them) with new calipers fine? I don't want to buy the brackets if there is no real benefit. And if it is just to get new pins and boots I can buy those separately a lot cheaper than getting them included in the bracket purchase.

So not sure what to do...?

I wouldn't bother with the bracket. I replaced the rear calipers on my Buick and re-used the existing bracket. The caliper should come with hardware. Have some caliper grease and you should be good to go.

I just ordered them without the brackets. I figured if I need new pins or boots I can buy them separately when I do the job for lots cheaper than getting the bracket. It would have been $26 extra per caliper to get the bracket.

Be sure to check the caliper parts to be sure you have ALL of the parts that you are suppose to get in the kits -- I did NOT have a good experience with reman. calipers from Cardone as the mounting hardware was missing from one of the caliper boxes.

Review this websit for the forum that has comments about the type of slide lube to use as some of the rubber sleeves are damaged in a short time if the correct lube is not used.

Hope this helps
