Need a new alternator for the Regal.

I need a new CS-130D alternator for my 96 Regal with a 3800II motor.

I see that O’reillys, Advance and AutoZone sells a hew aftermarket alternator for my car.
Are these alternators all the same and how well do they hold up?

I'd think a new alternator is better than a parts store reman. Those can be hit or miss.

Buy it , but I would not turn in the take off for the core charge just yet. Ask them to test it before you leave the store. Apples and oranges maybe but I bought a new starter for the Ranger for 38$ A brand new Chinese clone of the original Ford starter.

I bought an alt for my 2002 F150 at AZone. it was ~150 or so. For about a year afterwards the alt light would come on here and there for a few minutes which was unnerving but the ammeter was showing it was charging and my stereo has a voltage screen on it so I could see there was 13.5-14.5 volts.

My guess is that the voltage regulator was not as tight tolereance as the OEM ford id10t light on the dash wanted and so would illuminate. At some point it stopped coming on and it still working well today probably 4 years now.

I think I got the AZ gold with the long warranty.

Quality to buy depends on the ease of installation. If it's right on top and easy to get to, and you aren't taking the car on long out of town trips, but the cheapest sucker you can find. If it's difficult to install and you use this car for a living, go get a high end NAPA or equivalent. The lifetime warranties from the chains are great, but sometimes you will use 10 in your lifetime. I prefer new but.... see above.

RockAuto has an ACDelco Professional for $107.79

parts houses alternators most are reman junk

I'm blessed to have a 3rd generation rebuilder shop near me (Rayelco in Lodi, NJ) so I never though about it.

Heck, I grew up carrying dead alternators and starters to them on my bicycle. If anything was fried beyond repair they would've told me.

Obviously I concluded buying a new one was "never" necessary. Truly blessed.

Used to have an Impala LS with that motor - alternator went out and put a police interceptor alternator in it's place ...
