CAFE Standards Being Scaled Back

It ain't gonna reduce prices nor improve reliability. Another thing is that global automakers are less likely to change their plans as 3yrs from now times will change again.
And it could lead to loss of subsidies for economy cars. Even if you're not buying one yourself, your neighbor driving one is leaving more gas in the ground for you to consume.

Maybe the features will exist but be disabled via software from the factory. I’m thinking cylinder management stuff. Then if they are mandated again, the software is coded to enable.

That and "easy wins" like better axle ratios, the same stuff we saw in the 70s coming back, or should I say, going away.

Be interesting if they still have geared automatics being made for other markets that would return here to supplant CVTs.

I agree. However they might carry existing models forward longer. Not sure if there are any existing models worth buying though?

Maybe there will be some imports we otherwise would not have gotten?

Will it bring back this?

This and the overbearing safety regulations needed to reined in a long time ago. Everyone complains about the increasing price of new cars but all these regs are a big part of the price increases. You cant force manufacturers to constantly chance their designs and loose economy of scale and then scream about the price. Not to mention the many good vehicles that are not allowed in our market because they dont have a backup camera or lane keeping assist.
