Cabin filter airflow direction question

the last cabin filter I got for my sonata was a purolator and out of the box it had no arrow .. not sure why. in the past they always had a arrow.. but this one did not .. but the pleats are the pleats on that filter so it does not matter one way or the other.. now on our forester there is a plastic piece that is part of the filter so it can only go in 1 way. but the pleats are still the same.
Is the Microgard filter a dual layer filter? If it is, then the up direction may correspond to the coarser layer of the air filter, which the fine layer is on the blower side.
Never ever have I heard of an arrow on a filter, accessory or run of pipe meaning anything but flow direction.
"Assumptions" don't play in here.
Expecting the letters of our alphabet to be the same tomorrow isn't an assumption as the term is commonly used.

Try observing which side the dirt is located on the in-use CAF and replace with the arrow pointing to the clean side.

The Denso filter for the Lexus has an "UP" marking. Which corresponds (I think) to the direction of air flow. Looking at the filter element itself, I don't think it matters which way it's placed in the frame and installed in the air box.
Air filters ‘usually’ have a supportive media, ie, mesh, glue ribs, plastic ribbing etc. that keeps one side from distortion from airflow. That side usually goes away from the flow of air.

This should help . Looks like the cabin air filter is after the blower of this '06 JETTA . Most cabin air filters I've encountered are before the blower to protect it from debri , etc.. Looks like the arrow would face

Arrowgoes towards the blower . That way the outside air is filtered before the blower . This applies to the '18 Accent and '13 Fit Also , TOYOTAs we had were the same . Others may differ .
