CA real estate ... what 1.3M gets you here.

oh. Not Apple Valley
Easy to mix up the Valleys over there.
If I am correct there is no such thing as a postal code called Silicon Valley, correct" Its just a geographic area.
Started in Sunnyvale, National Semi, Fairchild. Then Santa Clara with a little company called Intel.
It is basically San Mateo in the north, then South Bay Area.

My Dad was a management engineer and came from Florida to work at Lockheed in fall '66. In late '69 he put a down payment on a filthy expensive 3/2 new home in Sunnyvale. Listed at 31K (mostly Doctors on the street); he paid like $26.5. We sold it after my folks passed away for $1.9M and it's $3M now.

FYI, Palo Alto is probably the most expensive per square foot in the US. My co-worker went through a divorce and bought a small 2/1 fixer upper in Palo Alto on Waverly back in the early 2000's I think. Her neighbors were "the 2 Steves", Jobs and Young. I bet Tanya's place could be $5M now.
Here's Jobs' place, on the corner. He later bought a mansion in Woodside so he could make deals at Buck's.

The rule of real estate is Location, location, location.

The price on the place in the original post is hopelessly optimistic IMO.
Uneducated buyer that just received an inheritance. Lottery winner, things happen, not easily, but they do happen.

Oh I know it only takes one.

Maybe a hobo who rode the rails past that place will win the lottery, and can then thumb his nose at his hobo buddies as they ride past.

Unless the job opportunity is amazing in Cali, I would avoid it like the plag considering the Cali Gov Debt and the cost of living.

Pa is not the greatest but my son is a computer engineer is a millionaire a number of times over. He works for one of 3 Hubs with Vanguard and bought a 12 acre clean and green retirement which sports very very low taxes as his retirement home in 2 years. I would guess he is living better than the majority of "Successful" people in Cali. Am I bragging?-no. Am I happy for him? Yea.
