Bypass valve settings?

Looking at the Wix website, I find that the filter for the Jeep 4.0 has a bypass setting of 8-11 psi. I saw in a post here somewhere that PureOne PL14670 has a setting of 12-15 psi.
So, my question is bascially, what's the story?
I know PureOne is more tightly packed with media, but why the higher bypass setting? The oversize PL30001 has the same 8-11 psi setting as the Wix.
So, what gives? Do I want the filter to go into bypass early or late? Will PureOne supposedly keep moving oil longer or something?
BTW, anybody have any idea what setting Jeep recommends?

Mark-its not unusual for filters from different manufactures to have different ranges for the same aplication. I have no problems with the range being close but not exactly the same. Bear in mind that these bypasses are not precise. Its possible that a 8-11 might operate in the upper range and the 12-15 in the lower range and could be almost the same.

Personally I think the best is getting the oversize filter and even if it has a higher bypass setting you are getting more flow through a larger filter before the bypass. If it has a lower bypass setting it will probably go into the bypass less with a larger filter. So in a sense-a larger filter makes the difference less relavant. But even so I would have zero problem replacing a 8-11 with a 12-15. I would rather not go the other way-but from a practical matter-I think its minor.

Just an opinion though

I believe in the opposite.
Oil pressure prevents wear.
Having an overly restrictive filter can possibly create wear.

I'll stick with lower bypass pressure.

I've seen/heard the difference in several engines.

If a filter is larger, than its size alone should prevent bypass. When really cold or at high rpm, I want PSI and not oiling restrictions.

It is a matter when an engine clatters with one filter and not another.
