Bypass leaks

I'd be confident in filters/brands where the bypass is an integral part of the dome endcap. For kicks and giggles, flashlight tested a recent L14610 bypass with recent c&p. Unsurprisingly, no light, all good. I think those with similar base end design, good too. As an aside, technically not the bypass that leaks, it's the bypass piece seal area.

It's not really the bypass valve that leaks. It's the metal-to-metal "seal" between the leaf spring and end cap. The actual bypass valve has not been proven to leak.

Oil filters with a fiber type end cap have been shown to seal better with the leaf spring than the metal-to-metal leaf spring type "seals". The OG Ultra used a fiber sealing ring on the metal end cap, and those sealed well. But seems many metal-to-metal leaf spring interfaces on multiple oil filter brands don't seal well because mankind has lost the "technology" to properly form a flat and smooth leaf spring like seen in the older filters. 🙃 😄

Purolator Boss and One filters do not leak. I've personally check them as others did on here. Also the ADBV work very well. I had just recently changed oil and had the Boss filter gasket side down to drain out the oil. Luckily when I cut it open I did it with the gasket side up, like you should, I had 1/2 the filter still full of oil

... although the jury is still out on the fiber end cap ones.
Only ones shown to leak light in that case are where the metal center tube is malformed which keeps the leaf spring from sitting all the way down on the end cap. If the center tube is made right and sits in the center tube hole right, the leaf spring will fully seat on the end cap and seal.

This is the bypass style I prefer currently. A PG made Carquest Premium in this case.

That's just talking about the function of a bypass valve, and what happens when it works, and when it doesn't work.

Has nothing to do with the thread subject of a leaky "bypass" ... which the OP actually meant was a "leaky leaf spring to end caps sealing". Many here calls the leaf spring leak issue a "leaking bypass", but that the wrong terminology.

This has been my observation with filters I’ve used personally.
