Bypass filter effect on the oil pump?

Any studies done about this? Seems as though the increased load on the pump would cause some type of an oil pump issue eventually. Comments?
 
It lightens the load to the pump marginally if set up as a parallel setup. If set up via a permacool sandwich adapter it may require slight drilling of the adapter to bring post filter psi up to its former spec, but this is a rare occurance.

The whole this and that tends to fall within normal restrictions that a full flow filter can effect on the system.

There will naturaly be exceptions. You may run into issues if you put a bypass filter on a car that already has 200k of wear on it...and the oil pump and the rest of the engine are in a finely balanced state of decay.
 
If everything is working right the oil pump is pumping more oil than the engine needs. The oil the engine can't use is returned to the oil pan thru the relief valve in the oil pump. If you have a worn engine or oil pump the oil pressure light might flicker on and off with the engine idleing. Add a bypass filter and the oil light might stay on at idle. One of the guys had an oil pump that didn't have enough oil pressure to open the relief valve in the Perma-Cool sandwich adapter. Drilling the adapter didn't fix the worn oil pump but it got rid of the symptom. On some old neglected engines the relief valve in the oil pump can stick closed. When this happens the full flow filter or the bypass filter can explode. This is very rare.
Bypass filters have never increased the load on the oil pump. Only a stuck relief valve can do that. Bypass filters have been around since the 20s. Most of them use about a 1/16" orifice. The stock bypass filter on my 82 Mazda diesel pickup had about a 1/32" orifice. Oil pumps are positive displacement pumps. Without a relief valve the oil pump drive shaft would break or something weaker would break like a filter.
