Well as a few of you know, I've been busy saving the known universe

,but now I have a question about using my new found "cheap" bypass filter mount and filter with Auto-RX. I picked up the filter and mount before I knew about the benefits of Auto-RX. I've got 156k on my 305 TPI engine in my camaro and have been into the top of the engine and know it needs cleaning. But I'd also like to add the benefits of a bypass filter to keep this poor abused motor running as long as possible. The Auto-RX treatment for an engine over 100k limes lasts for 6500 miles (two treatment cycles).

I don't drive my car much, so this amount of milage would take me well over a year to accumulate, and I'd really like to have the bypas filter on the car as soon as possible. But, with the small micron filter element of the amsoil BE-90 filter, would this work with the Auto-RX?
I'm torn as to which is more important to do. The bypass filter or Auto-RX treatment, or will they work together in harmony?

Thanks
Dan

Alloy,

They will work together with no problem. But in your case I would do the first Auto-Rx clean and rinse. Then on the second clean and rinse install the bypass filter. At the end, change both filters and oil and your engine will be happy.

Hmm, I have to ask, what is "auto RX"? Never heard of it.

I have an '86 chevy truck that we recently got that had been sitting for 11 years with only a handful of runs on it during that time. I"m noticing what seems to be very high oil consumption now. I"m wondering if the oil rings are stuck from sitting so long. The engine and truck only have 29,000 miles on it now and its 18 years old! LOL Hate the thought of having to pull the engine and re-ring it. Is "Auto RX" some kind of flushing stuff? Please enlighten me!

I didn't think anyone here recommended additives, but I may give it a try and see if my oil consumption goes down. Biggest problem is I only use the truck for camping, which is rare these days, so it only gets a few thousand miles each year!
Anyone ever heard of "SeaFoam"? Its pushed alot on another forum I frequent.

1977c10phxdriver, are you brand new here? If so, welcome.

It seems to me that most of the people at this site who like to use additives for the oil use Auto-Rx, Lube Control, Neutra or Schaeffer's #132. For the fuel, some use Neutra (it can be used in both oil and fuel) or Fuel Power.

People here are very interested in motor oils, testing of motor oils, testing of additives, etc. Some members of this web site have actually tested Auto-Rx. And some members with experience in doing motor oil analysis have tested Lube Control and Fuel Power. Lube Control advertises at this web site.

But as for the huge amount of stuff you will typically find in auto parts stores-all of the oil supplements, engine treatments, etc.; I would say that most members of this web site stay away from that stuff.

Hi Mystic, yes, I'm a "junior member" but i'm 51! LOL

Just trying to get a handle on my oil consumption on my '86 Chevy truck that I suspect has stuck oil rings from sitting for 11 years. Guess I'll order up a bottle and see how it goes. Thanks for the "welcome" too"

Yeah...when it comes to additives ...the OTC stuff is just for the peasents. We're into the upper tier of additive heirarchy

Hmmm, so that makes us "Oil Royalty"? Wow, king Dan the superman killer. I like that

Can I change my name on here to "king"?

Anyway, I added the Auto-RX yesterday but have only put maybe 11-12 miles on the car with it so far. Just out of curiousity I checked the dip stick and no change in the look of the oil. I didn't expect there to be, but I was under the hood anyway, so took a look. I'll keep checking to see if the oil blackens any from the additive.

Alloy,

ARX cleans slowly and methodically. Do not expect to see the real benefits until you have driven the appropriate mileage. ARX works only with flow and temperature. For faster results, run some highway miles. At the higher rpms you get better flow and run higher oil pressure. ARX should be good to clean the rotational seals in the motor as well. This will be helpful on a motor that has been virtually idle for some time. Many users have also noted that a good majority of contamination is actually removed during the "rinse cycle". Be patient, you'll get good results.
