Buying meat off a truck?

We used to get those guys in Alabama all the time. They gave you the impression that you were "on to something" (wink, wink). It amazed me how they would appeal to a person's darker side, (something for you and me and the boss will never know the difference). I never bought the meat but the next month or two, another guy would show up - same story - same response - no thanks.
 
I haven't seen one of those guys in a long time around here. The one that did stop at the shop one day with "American beef" in big letters on the side and I asked him why he was driving a Toyota truck selling the American beef! He had no answer and it made me laugh. Same old line about he had to get rid of it "cheap" but the prices he had were not a good deal anyway.
 
I had a similar situation, years ago, when I lived in N.C. Same playbook, but different product. This guy was selling seafood. Pretty much the same ending, too. I sent him packing with no sale, telling him I was unemployed (which was true).
 
We had driveway gypsies show up at my FIL's house. They asked BIL if he was "the man in charge of home maintenance" or somesuch so they could get a legally binding verbal contract before starting throwing tar sealer around.

I also had a firewood guy show up once. I sadly pointed at my (rental) house without chimney and said if I had a stove I'd buy some.
 
Have had someone drive up in a pickup truck and tell me that they have a load of asphalt left over from another job and they would pave my driveway cheap!

I said "just wait about 5 min., I am going to get cop to check you out.

They left in a big time hurry! I did call the cops, they had had other reports and were looking for them.
My drive still aint paved!
 
We get those people about once a year. Always a different person, different truck, same product. Response is always the same, "no thanks" with a door slam, or if Im outside I just walk away. Another poster hit the nail on the head... the whole experience just feels dirty enough for me to want to go take a shower after they leave.

Maybe he just got out. Yeah, I believe it's a felony to stick a gun in someone's face unless it's in self defense.

Anyway, this must be a variation of the white van speaker scam. There's even a wikipedia entry for the speaker scam. I've seen them a few times, but it's been a really time since I've seen them.

As far as I'm concerned it was self defense. The guy kept coming back.. Honestly they don't sound like too trusting of folks so I cant say I blame him for being defensive. Its not like it was a clan of girl scouts selling cookies.

Once you warn someone to not trespass again you're on pretty good ground most places.

Why? You tell someone to get off your property the first time and any time after that it is trespassing. 2 times is even pushing it, but 3 times and there could be reason to fear for your safety. I've got no issue with it and think it's what he should have done. How do you not know he's not casing the joint or looking for trouble. I don't think it's assault when you repeatedly come on my property after I've told you numerous times to stay off.
