My lawnomwer has a Briggs 3.75 hp Sprint engine, and ever since new it has been burning oil. I decided to measure the rate. After going through 5L of gas, it had burned much more than 50mL of oil. There is almost no leakage. It burns almost as much as a 50:1 mix two cycle motor, and the exhaust stinks as a result. I tried 15w50 and it slightly reduced consumption.
Is there a 4-cycle oil that produces less pollution when burned, in the same way there are low-smoke 2-cycle oils? Maybe I can find a low smoke 2-cycle oil with a high flash point, and put it in the crankcase.
