Happened a few days ago, made our morning radio news, but pretty quiet in general about it.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/228786/burmese-quake-toll-over-150

My daughter has a close friend on holidays over there ATM, with her parents, year old sister, and 15 year old brother...no facebook updates since the event, which isn't too surprising.

Imagine that school news will be pretty intereting when she gets back.

I would not know of the Burmese quake if I I only watched the regular TV outlets. The NZ quake has not been mentioned since Japan's 9.0 either.

Our Nightly news media is just a platform for pharmaceutical commercials. That and the feel good fluff human interest story near the end. Tonight it was instruments made of Ice in Norway.

Then another erectile dysfunction commercial.

That's what I found unbelievable when I was over there...News was drug ads, and whining about a Melbourne woman who was stupid enough to drop a pram (with baby) on train tracks. Said one talking head "Why are they so stupid", other talking head"you don't think that happens here ???", First talking head "well I haven't seen it reported".

Christchurch is still in the news everyday for us,with 180 odd killed it's our 3rd biggest loss of life in one event...and 2nd biggest on home soil. They had a 4.3 this morning, and we had a 3.6 in the mid North Island as well.About 200km away from me,and didn't feel it.No report of the Burmese quake here,I'm surprised they let anyone know about it.

I have been looking for news about CC. I spent about 2 years touring NZ, OZ and Indo about a decade ago.

Travelled OZ in a '73 Holden Kingswood, NZ in a Nissan C-20 van. Ahh, the good old days.

The C20 would be a more comfortable and better handling drive than an HQ Holden.

No,I'm being a bit mean - I had a C22 with diesel engine. It was the most uncomfortable thing to drive ever - I used to get out of it like a half shut pocket knife.

I bought the Holden in Perth, sold it in Sydney 10 months later for the same price I bought it for. Slept in the front seat tilted back many a night. Had to buy tires, and a speedo cable for it. I have the occasional nighttime dream I own it in this country.

The c 20 needed a new tranny (200$NZ, 4 speed manual column shift) tyres and some rust and minor electrical work. Bought it in Dunedin for 750$, sold it in Gisbourne for 200$ and a ride to the Auckland airport. But it had a raised platform and a comfy bed, and took me around both islands multiple times over 9 months.

Fond memories. Wish I could afford to return.

It's good you spent some time here, most spend a week or 2 in the South Island and think that is NZ.In 9 months you would've seen us warts and all.

Yeah, I thought you all drove like freaking lunatics!

Said the traveler in a slow van with a rear alignment issue.

After a few months, I too started to become immune to the beauty of the land when driving, and If I had a sporty car, would have had a blast driving your curvy roads.
