Hello, all,

Once again the never-great city of New Orleans has struck my car. Or some denizen of it has, anyway.

Two years ago my battleship-grey 420SEL was struck and scraped all along the driver's side while parked. The insurance company and I worked out a fair deal and totalled the car, and I was able to step right into my excellent gold C230.

Yesterday evening, probably while the car was parked at my apartment complex, some son-of-a-moron banged into the rear bumper at the driver's side corner. It's more than scuffing; there's an actual hole in the plastic, as well as scraping. However, it's only the bumper -- the fender is untouched, the chrome lip is fine, and the bronze strip that separates the chrome and the main part of the bumper may be buffable.

My questions: Any idea how much a new bumper would be? Does it come in parts, or do I have to replace all three regions (chrome, bronze, and plastic bumper)? Can I order it in the body color, or does it come in black and need to be painted to match?

I know a couple of body shops, and I'll be collecting estimates, but I have a $500 deductible. How much more than that is this likely to cost me?

(****, I hate this town.)

And if anybody in the New Orleans area knows a good body shop, I'd appreciate a tip. The guys I plan to use are booked up, can't even do an estimate, until June 19!

Yeah, I know, the bumper is plastic, it won't rust . . . but I'm the type who likes to get things moving.

Thanks in advance!

Paul,
My friend's father works at a body shop. When I asked her which one, she said, "It in Metairie, and I think its called Marshall Brothers." I'm sure you can salvage some parts of the bumper. At least with the old MBenz, each little part was separate. Good luck!

I think that's probably the Marshall Bros. Lincoln-Mercury dealership on Veterans Blvd. Thanks for the tip!
