Sorry if this has been covered but didn't see it when I searched.

I went into my toyota dealer the other day to buy my 0-20 toyota oil and when I was talking to the service guy who first tried to talk me into buying 5-20, as I was paying for my 0-20 he said that they have it in bulk in the service area if I want to have them change my oil. That got me thinking, wouldn't it be cheaper and better for the environment if I could bring in my own container and have them fill it with what I need? Is that possible or something that anyone has ever done before?

I haven't seen it yet, but it can't to too far off. Good idea IMO

Back in the 70's ESSO sold oil in plastic bags, but it never took off. (same bag as used for milk) I guess it was a bit ahead of its time.

BMW has part numbers to call out if you want to buy from their bulk lubricants.
Normally expensive and also, since not all dealers carry what you think they have, you could be paying a high price for a bulk generic gear oil vs. what you believe to be a non commercial super uber lube.

I'd be a bit nervous that the labels on the bulk oil don't match up with the products dispensed. I've heard, but have no firsthand knowledge, that it is pretty common for gas stations to have the wrong products in the right tanks, or vice versa.
