However, I've found that the local quaffs usually go well with the local cuisine, and Guinness is pretty popular, both in Dublin proper and Ireland in general.

But it's not the only stout I enjoy, nor was it the only beer I had in Ireland....

I might have had a Jameson or two, the Irish are pretty proud of their whisky....they even have a museum of Irish whisky across the street from Trinity college...
 
My hand 'crafted' soup and sandwich at Panera bread yesterday was 'Aaawwweesssome'! Lucky I had my hand 'crafted' silk tie draped over my shoulder with a napkin stuffed down the neck of my hand 'crafted' puffy shirt or the hand 'crafted' Mulligatawny soup would have made a mess. I will say that I did scuff my hand 'crafted' Italian driving shoes on the way to the Bimmer....'bummer'!

I've tried many "over the counter" types of beer in my life. And I don't think I've had but a very few micro-brews.

No point to my post except to say that after reading through this thread....I'm glad I'm not into the stuff. Lots of snobs and highly self-congratulatory opinions here on why Budweiser is "garbage".

Beer has become another one of those THINGS that us Americans have taken to the extreme. This seems to happen with many things such as coffee or wine. It's odd to me when we do this.

Astro is right (as he usually is about things). Beer is highly subjective. It indeed does depend on the mood or season. And there is NOTHING wrong with even the least expensive beer....if YOU like it.

I'm just not a beer drinker. Not a drinker of anything to excess other than a couple of cups of coffee a day. And no, it doesn't have to be from Borneo or the Congo.

The Budweiser commercial? I watched the clip. Not a big deal, is it?

It's just a commercial.

A corvair is objectively bad.

McDonalds food is objectively not very good.

Dial up is objectively slow compared to cable internet.

Nobody (well, very very very few) would argue those. This is the same thing. Budweiser is the McDonalds of the beer industry. It's the same as comparing a fine prime rib dinner to a McDonalds cheeseburger. Each have their place. It's not snobbery to say that Bud is objectively inferior to a lot of craft beer (Obviously not ALL, there is plenty of not very good craft beer out there) than it is to say that that prime rib dinner is probably inferior to the McDonalds cheeseburger.

But people wouldn't get upset if you said THAT would they? It's the same thing. Every now and again a McDonalds burger is ok, and sometimes it can even be considered tasty, if you are hungry enough. But nobody would ever call it fine cuisine. And nobody would get upset at you for saying that.

I don't condemn people for drinking bud. I try to encourage them to try other stuff. I've gotten my grandfather drinking crafts as well, and he used to be a bud light only guy.
 
And in this particular instance, this is the equivalent of McDonalds making an ad taht says "THIS BURGER WAS MADE FOR EATING, NOT DISSECTING". Imagine that commercial from Mcdonalds, and aimed at people who like better, more expensive food. All the foodies would immediately go into an uproar.

Just one example.
 
The irony of it all is that watching TV isn't all that good for you. So if you saw the commercial and are offended, what are you doing watching TV?

TV is not the only place where this ad could have been seen.

The main issue with the ad (for me), is just that it shows the hypocrisy of AB InBev.

I get it...but didn't come to the same conclusion as you.

I guess because I'm not a beer guy.

However, in the summer...when it's hot and I've been working outside for a few hours...just about ANY ice cold beer will taste refreshing.

But like I said...I'm glad I'm not into the whole craft beer or pretty much ANY beer drinking anymore. The stuff makes me feel bloated, tired, a headache, and gives me an appetite that I don't need at my age.

McDonald's would never make such an idiotic commercial. Just shows how little people know about beer that something so stupid aired on TV. "Hey, don't taste our stuff, shove it down your throat. Quality, taste, and variety is not for you!"

Nope. Who told you that? Been reading old Ralph Nader books again?

Compared with what? Judged by what standard? You ever drive one? Most early 60's cars would fail modern standards. No dual system brakes, never heard of ABS, lap belts...maybe, no airbags, no crumple zones...none of the nanny stuff that you've grown up on. None of the things that you take for granted, but most luxury cars from that vintage didn't have them either. So what?

Corvairs are a lot of fun, they're decently made, and when you put the top down on a ragtop version, driven by a young lady your own age, on a sunny summer day on your way to the beach, and there isn't a better car out there.

Objectively great, given the times I've been in one.

See, that's the problem with this whole thread. Too much subjectivity masquerading as objective standards...

amazing thread.we canucks, generally speaking, don't like American big brand beers, simply because our big brand beers are excellent. many American and Canadian craft beers are excellent, as well.
in Windsor, americans have been coming here to buy beer for decades, since they don't like the big name u.s. brews.we in Windsor don't go to the u.s. to buy beer.
like vehicle selection, beer selection is very subjective.
nick -- you're getting bent about a commercial.personally, I thought that it was funny. but, to each his own.
now, 'prone chimes in to stir the pot by asking, yet another, intelligent question-- " is Budweiser a good beer ?"'prone -- you're too much.
