so...we all post our views about this oil and that oil and what the latest and greatest one is...and to date i don't see a consensus even among the most experienced members here...

furthermore, i know that 99.9% of us like a high moly content oil such as that found in Havoline/Chevron products...

so...has anyone out there tried adding moly (such as liqui-moly) to their favorite oil and then do comparative uoa's before and afterwards to compare the pre and post-moly results?

If 99% of us preferred Havoline/Chevron & Delo,.... well then this forum would be a ghost town with alot of the same thinkers making it a boring place.

There's no proof moly is the best thing going. There does appear to be a consensus that these oils last longer than other dinos. But no proof that they protect better.

Just my 02 cents....

When this site first came about, I was obsessed with having an oil with moly in it, but after a few disappointing UOAs I realized there is more to an oil than just having moly in it. Moly is only one way to try and lower engine wear, but it's certainly not the only way and there are a lot of extremely good oils out there which use no moly at all.

And I don't think adding a moly supplement to your favorite oil is the way to go. Don't try to second guess the chemists who made your favorite motor oil by upsetting the balance of that oil with extra stuff added to it.

all good points...

and BTW i was not implying that everyones likes havoline...i was just using them as an example of an oil that is well liked and happens to have alotta moly, and its the moly that i gather that is generally well accepted.

and about the additives, there's a whole section on this site devoted to it so clearly there are many people out there who believe they can enhance their favorite oil. the question is if modifying it with a single, well received additive, such as MoDTC containing additive, would improve uoa...

A finite amount of moly sticks to metal parts.

In effect it seasons the engine.

After that, not a whole lot of benefit.

I though that was BITOG 101.

i simply want proof.

pre and post moly uoa's in the same car and using the same oil. is that too much to ask?

It can't be bad, based on the quantities that Redline Oil (what are they 900 PPM) and Motul (like 600 PPM). Those are to very good oils and use a lot. Havoline uses quite a bit true but some have stated that there are just CHEAPER was of meeting the goals with the likes of Boron. So you know they are skimping on price at least. OK not that 300 PPM guarantees a good oil but it can be a relative indication that they were not trying to skimp.

get a uoa on the oil that you are using now then change the oil and add vsot to it. Lotsa moly and ZDDP. Do a uoa again and see how your wear looks.

So be it! Thanx for the offer Bruce.

I'll be the guinea pig and provide the pre and post moly uoa's and keep you posted.

For this particular experiment, I'll be using Mobil 1 since thats what i already have in my Pilot now... oc due next month. i'll work out the details with Bruce.

One VERY important question that I need answered from u guru's out there, is which moly additive uses MoDTC and not MSO2? I know the MSO2 is NOT oil-soluble and therefore is suspended in its carrier oil. I don't want any of my oil channels clogged with moly.

here's a quick question.

i use Liqui-Moly 5W-40. i know this company sells a moly additive, they call it MOS2. but, do all of their oils also have moly blended in?

basically, i wanna know if my 5W-40 has moly in it already?
