Ugh. Bad luck this year, I was mowing the yard for the first time, was most of the way done, and suddenly it like sputters, but keeps running, but sounds slower and less healthy. Suddenly it just starts slowly dying, and stops. Let it sit a moment, it fires up for a few seconds, and keeps doing that. If I wedge the automatic choke "on" it will run fine, but off it doesn't work for more than a few seconds. It is winter gas. Vapor lock? Or is the carb plugged?

Stabil in the gas. It worked fine yesterday for the front yard, and got mostly through the back today before it started acting up. I wedged the choke on so I could finish. Other than that it runs great, it really agrees with the E3 plug and Quaker State 5w30
I would remove the jet that holds the carb bowl on and soak it in carb or brake cleaner for a couple of hours. Then blow out with compressed air if available. If not take a small wire from a garbage twist tie and poke thru the tiny holes in the jet. Have to look close for the holes.
Well, it's under warranty, so I can't do anything to it beyond normal maintenance. Air filter is brand new, just replaced last week. It will be going to sears this week while I'm going to get fixed under warranty.
Tried that, didn't work. If I hold the choke on, it runs fine. If I let it off, it chugs for a moment or two, before dying. It's really annoying that the first time of the year I use it it dies.

Like everybody else said, you got a clog in your gas delivery system.

If bad gas is to blame for the problems your having...warranty won't cover it.

No but they can rebuild or replace the carb. Or they might just replace the whole engine if they are lazy.
Try some Techron or Gumout/regane. My crummy little blower did the same thing after winter storage. Dumped a few ounces of Techron, let'er run for a while, about 15 minutes, finally let me open the choke all the way. Let it cool off over night, and tried it cold. It needed choke to start, then half-choke for 15 seconds to warm up, then ran fine with no choke.

One time I took a lawnmower back to be repaired because I just bought it at a big chain store and it was under warranty. They had it for like 2 or 3 weeks, and my grass kept growing and I had to use my old lawn mower. They gave me a new lawnmower. Someone, not me, ran over something with the mower, but if they weren't competent enough to realize something so obvious, I wasn't going to volunteer the info beforehand
. If they had said something i would've payed for another one. I don't think Sears will give him any hassle if he demands warranty repair.
Any updates? How'd everything turn out?
