B&S 16 hp intec motor ..i now use a FRAM 3614 filter $4.50 much cheaper than the $19.00 i paid for the BRIGG + STRATON oil filter.i installed an oil pressure guage and on start up the oil pressure is close to 80 psi ..when the oil warms up it goes down to 35 psi ..i did not have the oil guage on the tractor with the B-S oil filter so i don't know what the psi was ..when the oil pressure drops is it because the by-pass valve is wide open and dumps all the dirt and oil back into the motor ..???? ps ..i use CASTROL SYNTHEC 5W30 OIL ..

Your oil pressure drops because as oil as oil warms up to temperature, it becomes less viscous (thins out) resulting in lower oil pressure. That's how it has always been and you are fine.

+1 ... normal observation.

i change the oil and oil filter at the end of the season 15 oct. every year ..have never had a problem with the fram filters .living in canada and everything is more expensive here even the oil filters are OVERPRICED ...i can't get a purolator here for $ 4.50 ...

Guys ..he's in Canada. $15 for a Puro. If he liked Amsoil, he could get EAO's cheaper

He should probably order bulk for all his needs from Fleetfiler. They have USPS shipping for Canadian customers. No broker fees and access to some high quality filters at a very reasonable price.

Better yet...then he could extend the drain.

It has always amazed me that the older B&S engines (and others) never even had an oil filter and tended to run for 10-20 years. Many rarely, if ever, had a single oil change. I know from first hand experience . This is of course before I found BITOG.

A Motorcraft FL400s will be a good option for this filter if you have the room. Its about an inch longer. My miller Bobcat(Onan),Dad's Craftsman(kohler) amd wifes car (Mazda 3) all take the 3614 and I have switched them over to the 400S and it does a good job.

Autopartsway carries very well priced Bosch filters - only catch is you have to order $75 for free shipping, which is more filters than I need to stockup on right now. They are slightly more than the local price for Napa PS, but a much better filter.

Our choices do tend to suck though. Recent price shopping for my next OCI has netted (so far):

Napa PS @ ~$3.25
Motomaster @ ~$4.00
Toyota OEM @ ~$7.50
Wix @ $10
Mobil 1-EP @ $15

Buying cross border tends to not be cost effective (unless you live near it) after you pay outrageous UPS shipping fees (for ground shipping, no less) and duties.

I still have a couple thousand miles before I need to decide and might uncover some better options or prices. We just don't get the sales and rebates you guys do, which is the real killer here.

Thanks for the app chart- I've been using Frams for longer than many of you have been breathing-but, I think, that topic may ?have been discussed here at one time or another
